Smile II released in theaters on October 18, 2024. Currently, moviegoers still have time to see the $28 million dollar production on the big screen.
Initially, audiences are shown Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) starting her journey from the beginning. Riley is a pop star recovering from a car wreck she and her on-screen love interest, Ray (Paul Huson), were involved in. Riley is given a second chance at her life and singing career, though the same can not be said for Nicholson, who succumbs to the injuries he received during the accident.
Due to the wreck, Riley suffers through intense bouts of pain where she was injured; worse, doctors are unable to provide any medication or direction to help alleviate the pain.
Later, however, she meets an old acquaintance from High school, Lewis Fregoli (Lukas Gage), who sells her illicit substances to help with this pain until she witnesses his self-inflicted death and the unmoving, large grin that overtakes his features. Frightened, Riley flees–unknowingly taking the curse with her.
As she is affected by this curse, she is presented with an opportunity from a man named Morris (Peter Jacobson), who has a plan to end the curse using his research on the metaphysical being who, coincidentally, took his brother’s life in the past. He reveals he is seeking the spirit's latest victim to continue studying the being–this victim, is Riley. Upon learning this, Morris proposes killing and resuscitating Riley to get rid of the curse; however, she flees.
After an episode wherein she hallucinates her past and events that seemingly haunt her, Riley violently attacks a backup dancer, killing her. Realizing that the situation is becoming more out of her control, Riley decides to agree to Morris' plan.
Despite this, the entity possessing Riley ultimately wins, taking her life on stage as an audience looks on.
This cliffhanger ending leaves the audience to question, what is the entity's next move? Now, audiences can only speculate whether major contributors and directors, Parker Finn, Charlie Sarnoff and Christopher Tapia de Veer, will commit to continuing the franchise with a third film in the series
