Each summer, 826 Valencia hosts its annual Young Authors’ Workshop (YAW). The Young Authors’ Workshop is a two-week intensive writing camp for Bay Area students entering grades ten through twelve. The camp features writing workshops and seminars led by guest authors. This is a great opportunity for students to team up and, with the support of professional writers, poets, and spoken word artists, craft amazing work. The camp is open to twenty-five students who are excited to embark on a transformative journey as they develop their literary voices. We do generally have more interest in the program than we have space, and preference will be given to students attending SFUSD high schools. Every year, we see students grow their confidence and skills throughout the writing and editing process as they become a strong community of writers.
Professional writers, poets, and spoken word artists will teach guest lessons and volunteer tutors will help with revision and editing.
Students will explore a diverse range of genres, edit their writing in small workshop groups, and become published writers
At the end of the program, students who meet the camp’s requirements and expectations will receive a $250 stipend.
The camp is open to rising 9th-12th graders who are excited to explore a diverse range of genres, edit their writing in small workshop groups, and become a published writer.
