Entrada Scholars Program is a four-week academic program for racial and ethnic minority juniors and seniors in high school. Scholars take a 3- or 4-credit college course, receive academic coaching, and take part in a variety of activities all while living on campus for a first-hand introduction of college life. Upon successful completion of the program with a B- or above, high school graduating scholars who choose to attend Calvin University will be awarded a $4,000 scholarship renewable for up to five undergraduate years.
College Learning: Entrada Scholars are assigned an academic coach who attends their morning classes and leads an academic coaching session after the class. The coach teaches the scholars how to succeed in their courses and college, resulting in scholars performing as well as, or better than, Calvin students.
College Credit: Entrada scholars can earn college credit by taking a course like history, biology, or psychology. Successfully completing the course earns them 3-4 credit hours from Calvin University that can be transferred to most colleges. If they attend Calvin, the credit and grade become part of their academic record. The Calvin registrar's office helps transfer credit to other schools.
College Living: Entrada scholars from all over the US interact with each other and Calvin students in classes. Outside of class, they go shopping, watch movies, play sports, and lead community service activities. They attend worship services and Bible studies, and use campus facilities like the gym, pool, and library. Four weeks of work, worship, and play allow them to form lifelong friendships and a sense of community.
