Baker's Crust "Wine and Dine"

It's so much fun getting together to "Wine and Dine." Although Hurricane Ian was knocking, we still found a few minutes to indulge in Baker's Crust's delectable food and share some strategies. Luckily, we were just in time for Happy Hour!
We had new faces at our gathering this time! It's been a minute since our last gathering, so even regular attendees were "new"! Liz O., Lisa B., and Norma were new, new to the fun, and are looking forward to our next event, which will be held on November 3.
Our first order of business was to decide on our beverages and chit-chat while perusing the menu. I decided on a mini burger and chips from the Happy Hour menu, and although very mini, the burger was scrumptious! The Harvest Sangria was pretty good, too. I began our FLC conversation with an overview of the purpose of the community and our badge system. The purpose of the FLC is to build a community of camaraderie and share strategies that have worked in our classes and maybe some that didn't work so well and needed improvement! Remember, failures are as important as successes because that's how we all learn! Peruse Alyssa Tucker's blog post to read "Why Failure is Necessary for Success" for three reasons failure opens up your world to opportunity!
Liz shared a successful strategy that we'll call "Sonic Mnemonic." Mnemonics are typically used for remembering; however, this mnemonic acronym helped students understand the concept, and implied elements of Bloom's application level, which makes it "sonic." See her guest blog post here explaining how she implemented the strategy!I'd also like to thank Kathy B. for sharing how she problem-solved a simulation group inequity and decided to split up her simulation into individual (morning and afternoon) sessions. She shared that this worked out exceptionally well for her content application and provided an extra opportunity for her students to participate in another simulation day. __________________________________________________________________Want to learn more about Mnemonics? The article by Maheshwari and Kaur (2019) describes nine types of mnemonic techniques and six mnemonic strategies that can be helpful to healthcare students in learning complex material.
