Math Learning Recovery AKA The Math Cats

We will be using Google to communicate and to support generalizing our Math skills into our everyday lives - students will be receiving an email invitation to join the class in the next 24 hours. Each student is working on their own learning goals, some are completing Math 10W, some are completing Math 11W and some are refreshing and strengthening some missed math skills. I will be asking students to participate in the google activities until early next week when we can schedule a time for them to pick up any paper resources they need. I know that we can work through this shift in how materials are presented and continue to build strong number skills.

I will miss our daily, face to face math times and seeing those wonderful AHA! moments when a new concept is learned, but I will try to set up a Q and A section in our google classroom so you can have 'conversations' and ask me lots of questions.

The Plan

Goals:

to build math skills to support future academics

to build math skills to support life

to increase selfconfidence with numeracy

to complete unfinished assignments from previous math classes

Method:

each week a brain teaser math question will be posted on google classroom for students to ponder

students will have exisiting files with in progress worksheets at home to complete

students will be able to meet up as a class to continue our skill builder sessions students will have access to 1:1 support

Class meet-up times" MWF 11:30 - 12 via google hangout

Cafeteria 11/12

We will be using our google classroom to communicate, plan and share our recipes and ideas - students will receive an email invitation to join the class in the next 24 hours. It will take some time to build appropriate assignments that match the expected learning outcomes so don't expect your first assignment until Friday this week - but there will be mini check-ins each day. It is expected that students will participate in the online program fully and in a timely manner. If there are connectivity problems or other concerns, please email me dfaulkner@sd48.bc.ca and we can set up a time for a phone conversation.

The Plan

Goals

to practice and build culinary skills

to feed others

Method:

Each week a new skill will be posted and defined - and a video shown

Students will be asked to find a recipe that uses that skill, to complete the recipe and to respond to a feedback question

Each week students will plan and prepare 1 meal for family. There will be a focus given for the week such as identifying the control points for food safety, how to adapt for dietary restrictions, budget meals, etc. Feedback will be from family as well as from the student.

Class meet-up times: MWF 10:30 - 11 via google hangout

Office hours for 1:1: 7:30 - 8:00PM via facetime or text
