To Outdoor Program students:

Hi! Hope you are doing ok, all things considered. For sure these are concerning and challenging times. I really wish we could all be together right now but as I am sure you can understand and appreciate, we can’t. So what do we do? Well, the short answer is that we just have to try and make the best of it, that is all we can do. We all recognize that this a less than ideal situation and we just have to make the best of it.

I really don’t know what this looks like in the days, weeks ahead and beyond. Like you I have thought about it a lot but I really don’t know. For now all I and you can do is take it a few days at a time and as mentioned, make the best of it. Of course I want very much for us to be together again soon.

I have created a google classroom “Mr. Hargitt’s Outdoor Program” and added you all as students (in progress, I should be done by later this afternoon, March 30). So when you sign into your google classroom, this will be one of your choices. This is how we will communicate with each other, get assignments, hand in assignments, be directed to resources etc. I am confident you have all used it before, until a few hours ago, I had not.

As you perhaps have witnessed by me having to be rescued by various students in the classroom regarding technical/computer issues, I admit this is not one of my strengths but pretty sure I can figure it out and will be working on it lots in the coming days. Yes, you really are going to be given assignments and things you need to do! Maybe I could even figure out how to post a video of me blabbing away! This is school for now, less than ideal but again, we are all going to have to make the best of it.

I will shortly be putting on our google classroom a short check in assignment, just a quick and easy way to make contact with you. It is pretty darn exciting, it involves some pictures from the trail cameras that we put out about 5 or 6 weeks ago which we had not yet retrieved. It is quite possible that you read this letter before I have finished setting up the google classroom, hang in there, I should have it up and running by later this afternoon (March 30).

Will leave it there for now, thinking of everyone, take care!

Grade 9 Applicants for the 2020-2021 School Year

Hello grade 9 students and parents:

I have recently received some inquires about Outdoor Program applications (5 just this morning!). Originally, students were to hand these in to me/the office this Friday April 3. Please do not take these into the school to drop off, we are simply trying to reduce the number of people in the building and the number of documents that the office is handed.

Instead, you can e mail them directly to me. This can be a word document, a pdf or even a picture of your completed application. Please do not send me it as a google doc. If you have done this as a google doc, please just paste it into a word document or the body of the e mail itself. For the part where you evaluate yourself (where you put a check or an “x” in the grid) on some of your characteristics, you can just copy this out or send it as a picture. We can take care of the required deposit at a future date. Of course please include any of the bursary applications that you are applying for.

Or…you can mail it all to the school. If you would like to include the deposit that is requested that is fine, but it certainly is also no problem for me to collect this at a future date. If you do mail it to the school, please ensure my name is on the envelope (address below).

I will extend the deadline for applications until April 20. However, if you have completed your application, I encourage you to mail/e mail these to me in the coming days.

If you gave me/the office your application before spring break, as some of you did, that is fine and there is no need for you to do anything.

Take care, sincerely look forward to seeing you all soon!
