“In the moment” planning is a very simple idea – observing and interacting with children as they pursue their own interests and also assessing and moving the learning on in that moment. The written account of some of these interactions becomes a learning journey.
Independent learning is when pupils set goals, monitor and evaluate their own academic development, so they can manage their own motivation towards learning. At Undy, we encourage all of our learners to become more independent. In Progression Step 2 learners take part in "My Time to Shine". This is where pupils can choose an activity to undertake independently in whatever way they choose - the activity will be linked to a skill that has previously been taught.
In Progression Step 3, all learners take part in Plaza time - they have up to 6 activities to choose from and then they choose which level of difficulty they want to do. Pupils are encouraged to challenge themselves.
Google Classroom is a digital platform for learners and teachers to upload work, notices and material. All children have a log in for this and will have brought it home. Google Classroom can be accessed via a desktop (laptop or computer) by signing in to Google and then choosing the Google Classroom from the apps (waffle at the top right of the Google home page). Or you can download the app for free, on to a phone or tablet from your app store and then sign in using your child's log in details.
Google Classroom is used in school as well - especially in Key Stage 2 where children use it to access their Independent Learning activities. All Classes use Google Classroom for some aspect of their learning or communications. Please let your child's class teacher know straight away if you are having difficulties accessing it. We are always happy to help.
We have achieved the Silver award for Cymraeg Campus and we are currently working towards the Silver award. This award is achieved by a school for its hard work and dedication in promoting the Welsh Langauge and Welsh ethos.
The school will have a 'Criw Cymraeg' that will lead the initiative alongside staff members.
The Rights Respecting Schools Award puts children’s rights at the heart of schools in the UK.
Unicef works with schools in the UK to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. Our Rights Respecting Schools Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.
Young carers are children or young people who take a significant role in caring for a family member. The family member could be suffering from physical or mental health problem, a disability or drug and alcohol problems.
Children in Wales has been carrying out work relating to young carers since 2002, when we were invited to join the Welsh Governments Carers Strategy Advisory group, to look at how young carers could be actively engaged in the Carers Strategy. Children in Wales believes that work to support young carers is vital as these young people are often hidden. Young carers may not recognise that their role within the family is different to other children and young people, but they often carry significant physical and psychological burdens. Young carers often have little or no “me time” and can appear to lose their childhood.

In Undy, we are just beginning our journey, to become Armed Forces Aware, and are currently working towards our Bronze Award.
The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation, ensuring that those who serve or who have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly.
The covenant focuses on helping members of the Armed Forces community, experience neither advantage nor disadvantage due to Service and therefore have the same access to government and commercial services and products as any other citizen.
For more information on the Armed Forces Covenant, visit:
www.armedforcescovenant.gov.uk/support-and-advice
At Undy, we demonstrate our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant through the following activities:
We engage with our Armed Forces community
We celebrate the commitments of our Armed Forces community in a positive way
We create opportunities for our Service families to share their experiences
We identify our Service children and ensure they are well supported in education
We are proactive in gaining information that will enable us to support our Service children
We engage with SSCE Cymru and the resources and support that they provide
We ensure all our pupils have opportunities to learn about the current Armed Forces operations and commitments of the UK Service personnel
We understand the commitments and sacrifices that our Armed Forces families make in ensuring we can be safe and protected from danger.
