Course Outline
The Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Standard Level course is for students who have a secure knowledge of basic mathematical concepts and are able to apply simple mathematical techniques correctly. It is particularly suited to students who require a sound mathematical background for future studies in subjects with a substantial mathematical content such as Mathematics itself, Physics, Engineering, and Economics.
The course focuses on developing important mathematical concepts in a comprehensive, coherent and rigorous way through a balanced approach. This course has an emphasis on calculus appropriate for those who love mathematics and have an interest in analytical methods. At Higher Level, it complements and supports the study of Higher Level Physics.
In addition, students will complete a piece of coursework known as their Internal Assessment, which will provide an opportunity for students to carry out a mathematical investigation using skills learned before and during the course.
This course shares a common core with the other IB Mathematics course, and as such students have the opportunity to move to the other route if appropriate during the first half term of the course... [Read More]
