Wider curriculum
There is much more to becoming a happy and confident young adult than your academic studies, so our Sixth Form Centre experience extends far beyond the subjects you will take.
Through our tutorial provision, Personal Development programme and wider student support and guidance, we provide a caring and inclusive environment in which to learn. This is most evident in the positive feedback we regularly receive from our students, many of whom willingly volunteer both within the Sixth Form Centre and beyond, supporting their peers and the wider community.
Personal Development
Our Personal Development curriculum is designed to enable all students to learn successfully and achieve independently, whilst promoting their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. It aims to prepare young people for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life, developing them to be confident individuals, successful learners, effective contributors and responsible citizens.
Taught Personal Development sessions take place weekly and cover the modules below over the course of 2 years. In addition, opportunities such as prefect duties, revision workshops, university seminars, CV support and practice interviews arise regularly throughout each year.
1. Developing successful post-16 study skills enhances students’ classroom and independent study skills, their self management, self regulation & metacognition.
2. Living a fulfilling, safe and healthy life covers strategies to promote physical, mental and emotional health, in relation to e.g. alcohol, drugs, sexual health and online safety.
3. Becoming a responsible & engaged citizen explores our roles and responsibilities within society locally, nationally and globally, culminating in our annual Deputies Forum.
4. Preparing for further study & working life gets students ready for their next steps through support with applications, interviews, CV writing and personal finance.
