Careers guidance and preparation for employment
For many students, the Sixth Form years are the bridge between school and employment. We ensure they are thoroughly-prepared for every aspect of this important next step, from choosing a sector to gaining work experience, writing CVs and letters of application, and preparing for interview.
Our Careers and Guidance Manager supports students with work-related learning throughout their time in the Sixth Form as well as the opportunities for Leadership Shadowing, Work Experience and the Law Moot. The Employment pathway of our Personal Development programme covers the Guernsey job market, CVs, interviews and letters of application, as well as providing networking opportunities with a range of local employers.
Work Experience & Work Related Learning
In the final week of Year 12, students looking to progress into employment straight after Sixth Form are supported to arrange and take part in a work experience placement with a local employer. As well as undertaking workshops with local business to develop key employability skills.
Enterprise Challenge
This gives our Business students the opportunity to create their own unique business idea, pitch it to industry professionals and bring it to the market. In recent years these have included initiatives from a luxury yacht valeting service to launching a new flavour of ice cream in collaboration with Guernsey Dairy, developing students’ creativity and initiative.
Leadership Shadowing
Many of our students participate in this annual IoD scheme. This provides a unique opportunity to gain insights into leadership through on-site placements, where students witness first-hand how local leaders motivate, advise and support their teams. It culminates in an exciting awards evening at which students present their insights gained to a panel of industry experts.
Law Moot
One of the excellent opportunities on offer to our Sixth Form students is the Law Moot organised by Collas Crill, a scheme that allows students to argue a fictitious case and consider the evidence and different views. This experience allows students to develop their ability to analyse, interpret, debate and finesse their public speaking skills, whilst building their confidence.
