Attendance and Punctuality:
The Sixth Form provides a full time education. Students are expected to be punctual in attending school each morning and to all lessons, and are required to remain at school during the day. Please note the following:
All students’ attendance and punctuality are continually monitored and recorded. These records inform their Leaver’s Reference and will be shared with prospective employers if requested.
Year 12 students must remain in school during their independent study periods. Year 13 students may leave for home study from Period 4 onwards, if they have no further lessons that day. Year 13 students who are late or have unexplained absence may have their ability to leave for home study revoked.
The Sixth Form Centre uses the Sign In App with students to sign in and out. All students are expected to use this.
Students may leave the premises at morning break and at lunch time if they wish to do so, but must return in time to be punctual for the start of Period 3 and Period 5.
Students must sign in and out at reception if they leave the premises during the day.
Students are expected to register by signing in using the Sign In App at the start of Period 5 if they do not have a lesson.
Students arriving more than 5 minutes late to school must sign in at the Sixth Form Centre reception stating their name, time of arrival and reason for lateness.
In the case of unforeseen absences e.g. illness, parents/carers should notify the school before 9:00 am by telephone (226571) or email (sixthform@education.gg ) on each day of absence. If the school is not informed, the school office will contact parents/carers.
We encourage each student to aim for 100% attendance but understand that for unforeseeable reasons, e.g. illness, this may not always be attainable. However, attendance over the year should ideally be at least 95%. Students whose attendance falls below this level may be placed on contract and risk entry to external examinations. We have a staged attendance intervention and support process; parents/carers will be kept informed, and their support at home requested, in cases of low attendance.
In the rare cases where a student’s attendance falls below 85% the student may no longer be required to attend school. This decision will be made on a case-by-case basis according to the individual’s circumstances. In the case where a student is no longer required to attend, should they still wish to sit examinations they will need to submit payment of examination fees before their entries as an external candidate are made.
Leave of Absence:
Parents and carers are advised that family holidays taken in term time can have a serious impact on learning, progress and wellbeing. In accordance with the Island Attendance Policy, absences for the purposes of holiday will be unauthorised. Requests for Leave of Absence should be made to the Principal using the Leave of Absence Request Form, which is available here. Please allow as much notice as possible and at least two weeks for any known intended absence.
Attendance at the school is excellent with an annual average of over 96%. Attending school regularly and on time is crucial for your child’s development and wellbeing.
