Hi everyone. My name is Mr. Wingo, and I help coordinate the career pathways here at San Bernardino High School. I’ll be reading my thoughts here so that I don’t miss anything.
You’re going to hear the word pathway a lot during high school, so I want to take a minute to explain what it actually means—and why it matters to you. We created these pathways to improve the quality of your educational experience.
A pathway is a series of classes you take over multiple years that connects what you’re learning in school to real careers and real adult life. It’s not just about picking an interest. It’s about learning how to apply your skills, communicate well, work with others, and make decisions that set you up for the future.
Every pathway is designed to help you become prepared for life during and after high school—whether that’s building your own business now, going to college, a trade, the military, starting a business later, or working for a company. In your pathway, you’ll practice real experiences, earn real certifications, (PAUSE) and gain confidence in yourself.
I want you to know this up front: choosing a pathway is NOT about locking yourself into one job forever. It’s about building skills that transfer wherever you go next.
Over the next few years, you and I will work together more closely as you move through your pathway. My role is to help make sure what you’re learning here actually helps you out there.

Escucharán mucho la palabra "trayectoria" durante la preparatoria, así que quiero tomarme un minuto para explicarles qué significa realmente y por qué es importante para ustedes. Creamos estas trayectorias para mejorar la calidad de su experiencia educativa.
Una trayectoria es una serie de clases que toman a lo largo de varios años y que conectan lo que aprenden en la escuela con carreras reales y la vida adulta. No se trata solo de elegir un interés, sino de aprender a aplicar sus habilidades, comunicarse bien, trabajar en equipo y tomar decisiones que los preparen para el futuro.
Cada trayectoria está diseñada para ayudarlos a prepararse para la vida durante y después de la preparatoria, ya sea para emprender un negocio ahora, ir a la universidad, aprender un oficio, unirse a las fuerzas armadas, iniciar un negocio más adelante o trabajar para una empresa. En su trayectoria, practicarán experiencias reales, obtendrán certificaciones (PAUSA) y ganarán confianza en sí mismos.
Quiero que sepan esto desde el principio: elegir una trayectoria NO significa comprometerse con un solo trabajo para siempre. Se trata de desarrollar habilidades que les serán útiles dondequiera que vayan.

All pathways teach the same career-ready skills. What’s different is how you practice them.
Growth is still expected — and we’ll help you do it.
Sometimes the hardest part isn’t choosing a pathway — it’s finding the energy to engage at all. That experience is more common than people admit.
Action often comes first. Motivation and enjoyment usually follow.
If things feel heavier than schoolwork: email your counselor or visit the front office to schedule a meeting. Counselors have resources to help! There is absolutely no need to feel stuck longer than necessary. Start your journey to peace and joy without delay.
