The Graphic Production Pathway prepares students to design, produce, and deliver professional-quality printed and branded products while learning how creative work functions inside real manufacturing and business environments. Students develop both artistic and technical skills, learning how ideas move from concept to finished product while meeting deadlines, quality standards, and customer expectations. This pathway is well suited for students who enjoy hands-on work, visual creativity, technology, and seeing tangible results from their efforts.
Students begin with Silk Screening and Embroidery 1, where they learn the foundations of graphic production and screen printing. Students design original artwork using both traditional and digital methods and apply principles of color, layout, typography, and visual communication. Using industry-standard software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, students prepare files for print and learn prepress processes such as proofing, file setup, and color management. Throughout the course, students create multiple finished products and build a portfolio that may include branding materials such as logos, marketing pieces, signage, and apparel.
In Silk Screening and Embroidery 2, students move into advanced production and real-world application. This capstone course prepares students for entry-level positions in manufacturing shop environments and related business offices. Students earn industry-recognized safety certifications, including OSHA 10, and microcertifications on a wide range of professional equipment found in a graphic production shop. Equipment and processes include screen printing systems, embroidery machines, heat transfer, laser engraving, 3D printing, and related digital tools. Students document their technical skills through professional journals and an ePortfolio that reflects both creative and operational competence.
A defining feature of the Graphic Production Pathway is the student-run enterprise. Students operate a functioning production business that accepts and fulfills orders from the public and school departments. In this setting, students manage workflow, quality control, scheduling, inventory, marketing, and basic financial accounting. They work in teams, rotate leadership roles, respond to client feedback, and adapt to real production challenges. The pathway concludes with capstone interviews with industry professionals, where students present their portfolios, explain their processes, and reflect on their growth.
By completing the Graphic Production Pathway, students gain practical manufacturing experience, creative confidence, workplace readiness, and a strong understanding of how design and production intersect with business operations. Graduates are prepared for further education, technical training, or entry-level employment in graphic production, printing, apparel, marketing, and related creative industries—while carrying transferable skills valued across many careers.
