1. General Strategy: Create a "portfolio: of five or six colleges/universities to which you would like to apply

- This “portfolio” of schools should include a range of difficulty
- 1 Safety School - you exceed their entrance requirements
- 2-3 Comfort Schools - you meet the entrance requirements
- 1-2 Reach Schools - you’d love to go but don’t quite meet the requirements
- This “portfolio” of schools should also include a range of price
- Safety school and 1 comfort should be “tuition-break” schools (i.e. in-state tuition)
- Note: Public schools in other states charge you “out of state tuition”
- Note: Private schools are more expensive but likely offer more financial aid
- Senior Parent College Planning Presentation - Thursday, Sept. 28th @ 6pm and 7pm (during Open House) - Lecture Hall

- Send scores to colleges (use the four “free” score reports you receive when registering)
- Create an account & search for your schools
10. Student Athlete? - Register with NCAA Eligibility Center to participate in either DI or DII athletics.

11. The Financial Aid process begins with FAFSA. Students and parents are able to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in December of 2023.

- Note - Beginning with the class of 2024 students are required to either complete the FAFSA (or to complete a waiver form) as a graduation requirement.
- This graduation requirement was established by the legislature of the state of NH applies to all public high schools in NH.
- Families should use the FAFSA Completion Certification Form to indicate whether they will be completing the FAFSA or submitting a waiver form.

Students receive expert assistance from knowledgeable volunteers (college admission counselors, school counselors, The NHHEAF Network Organizations’ Center for College Planning counselors, etc.) in submitting their college applications. Students can ask questions, receive essay feedback and have their college application(s) reviewed before submission.
