San Diego Unified is taking important steps to strengthen special education -- addressing systemic challenges, improving supports, and continuing to advocate for fair funding at the state and federal levels. Now, we need families and community members to add their voices.
Please sign our petition urging Congress to fully fund the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Sign the petition by clicking here! When IDEA passed in 1975, Congress committed to covering 40% of the additional cost of educating students with disabilities—but that promise has never been met. At San Diego Unified, IDEA currently covers only about 6% of special education costs -- the district spends $400M+ annually yet receives only $28M in IDEA funding.
The petition calls on Congress to pass the IDEA Full Funding Act and make good on their promise to support students with disabilities.

Food Banks
There are two primary providers of food resources in San Diego: Feeding San Diego and the San Diego Food Bank. They operate out of various locations around the city. Here are two links to find food near you. Simply input the zip code where you are and these locators will tell you where the nearest food banks are located, including days and hours of operation, and any other requirements.
It is important to note that food banks run out of food on distribution days. Families should arrive early with plenty of their own bags and a way to get the food back (ex: wagon or cart).
