Luckily , this Friday is a minimum day so you can get your vacation started early! Classes resume on Monday, December 1st. Happy Thanksgiving!

Chavistas Service Club is hosting a food drive to help families in need in and outside our community. Please drop off items in the Wellness Center take advantage of our 5 for 5 program donate 5 items and get 5 tardies removed!

12th graders -

If you are interested in City College's Business or Cosmetology program, sign up for the City College tour taking place on December 3rd.

QR codes to sign up are in the Wellness Center and outside Ms. Patterson's office. The tour is limited to 20 spots, so sign up today!

California State Seal of Civic Engagement - Applications for Fall Projects being accepted now thru Dec 19th. For Spring/Year-long project deadlines - see flyer

The California State Seal of Civic Engagement (SSCE) recognizes high school students who demonstrate excellence in civic knowledge, skills, and leadership. This official state honor adds a powerful distinction to students’ diplomas and highlights their commitment to making a difference in their communities.

Who can apply: Eligible Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors in San Diego Unified.

Why it matters: Seniors who earn the Seal receive a gold seal on their diploma and a graduation cord!

To qualify, students must meet basic GPA and history course requirements, complete a Civics or YPAR project, and submit a reflection and teacher recommendation.

Encourage your students to apply starting November 14 at sdunified.info/civics

Annual Turkey Giveaway Event on November 22

Dear Neighbor,

I'm excited to invite you to my Annual Fall Legislative Update, Health Fair, and Turkey Giveaway on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Madison High School. This community event is one of my favorite times of the year, as it brings together families, local partners, and neighbors to celebrate the season with gratitude, wellness, and connection.

You'll have an opportunity to receive free health resources, learn more about local services, and take home a turkey for your family's holiday meal. I will also share updates on the work we've been doing in Sacramento to uplift and support our community.

Event Details:
Date: Saturday, November 22, 2025
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. or while supplies last
Location: Back of Madison High School (entrance is on Mt. Abernathy Ave.)
Please follow the event signs when you arrive.

Event Tips:

The event will be open on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last.
One turkey per household.
A member from each household must be present.
Be prepared to stand in line for an extended period.
Bring a cart to carry your turkey and food items as they can be heavy.
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
Bring an umbrella for shade and water to stay hydrated.

Winter Concert Series

Tuesday, December 9th - Jazz Night featuring Swing Choir, Jazz Combo, Mambo Orchestra & The Preservationists

Wednesday, December 10th - Classical Night featuring Concert Choir, String Orchestra, Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra

For both events, doors open at 6:30pm and music starts at 7pm. $5 suggested donation at the door. Warm drinks and snack available.

Entries Due Dec 19th for your PSA

Get involved and make a difference by creating a PSA or poster for the Break Free, Breathe Free Anti-Vaping Contest. Create a short video or poster about the dangers of vaping or drugs and share healthy choices for your peers. Entries are due Dec. 19 – there are cash prizes for winning entries. High School (9th - 12th Grades) Information

ACES TUTORING - Open before and after school in the Library! Every Monday through Friday in the mornings from 7:30 - 8:30 and every Monday through Thursday in the afternoons from 3:30 - 5:00. We have teachers across all subject areas to help you!

TREAT is held everyday at lunch please report by 1:30 Students can make up a tardy in the auditorium with Mrs. Filamor or with a participating teacher.

Showing up matters. When you miss school, you miss out on learning, friends, and opportunities. Be present, stay on track, and remember: showing up today sets you up for success tomorrow.

Did you receive an attendance support plan? Please make sure you are following it and attending Saturday School and TREATs!

Food Banks

There are two primary providers of food resources in San Diego: Feeding San Diego and the San Diego Food Bank. They operate out of various locations around the city. Here are two links to find food near you. Simply input the zip code where you are and these locators will tell you where the nearest food banks are located, including days and hours of operation, and any other requirements.

It is important to note that food banks run out of food on distribution days. Families should arrive early with plenty of their own bags and a way to get the food back (ex: wagon or cart).

Safe Parking

Youth in Transition is opening a district-partnered safe parking site. If you are a a family with a car who needs a place to stay, you can get referred by your counselor.

MBHS Winter Formal - February 7th!!!

ASB will be hosting a Winter Formal on Sat, Feb 7 from 7-10pm at The Music Box in Little Italy.

The venue has attendance restrictions so this dance WILL SELL OUT. Only 650 tickets will be sold!

Tickets will go on sale starting on Jan 7th at lunch. Dance Contracts and the pricing schedule will be available soon.

YOU MUST BE ON THE VIP LIST TO BUY A TICKET so be sure to clear up tardies and absences before Jan 7 so you don't miss your opportunity to attend this event.

Annual Forms - Please log in to your Parent Portal (website - not mobile app) to complete annual forms AND review your student's enrollment information.

- - Federal Impact Aid Survey - Due December 19th
  - If you haven't already done so for 25-26 school year
    - Review the Family Resource Guide and complete the one-question confirmation form.
    - Fill out the Universal Form (media release, technology use, discipline acknowledgement).
  - Be sure you complete the forms for ALL of the children in your Parent Portal. These annual forms must be completed for each individual student.

  - Review Additional Information tab with questions specific for high school students
