The main purpose of building and fire codes is to ensure the quality and safety of commercial and residential building structures. These codes set the minimum requirements to safeguard the occupants of a building, and to protect the building structure from various threats and exposures.
Bedroom windows must have an egress window. The measurement requirements for egress windows are as follows: A net clear opening of at least 5.7 square feet. A height greater than or equal to 24 inches. A width greater than or equal to 20 inches.
More Fire codes:
Hallway widths must be a greater than or equal to 36 inches.
Your house must have a front door and a back door, so that if there is a fire or emergency, you can escape.
Exterior doors must have a width that is greater than or equal to 36 inches (most people choose to make exterior doors 36 inches).
Interior-door widths must be greater than or equal to 30 inches. Common interior-door widths are 30 inches or 36 inches.
