***Please join us on Thursday, June 8th after school for a Presentation of Learning @ LMEC!
We have some awesome designers and builders here in the 6th grade wing of LMEC. Check this page to see what your fellow architects/designers/builders are doing!
Erick, Manny, Hugo, and Derek use masking tape to build the first prototype. It's harder than it looks getting those walls to line up just right!
Stacy and Alma's final draft of their floor plan is neat and precise. Google Draw is so much easier when your Section C floor plan looks as good as this!
Check out some of our designers/architects/builders working hard on some very sophisticated floor plans and then transferring those floor plans to Google Draw.
Mr. Moreno's Period 1 class working hard. Ms. Espinoza, the most thorough inspector, works with Manny in this photo.
Mikel and Rachel explain the process of building their house to SDUSD leadership.
Students finally get to assemble their houses, but not before having to draw their setbacks on their plots of land.
Here, students are sorting through their walls by using their Section C floor plan as a guide.
Period 5 starts to assemble their houses!
Jean and Nico do an outstanding job giving a tour of their house to SDUSD leadership.
Maylin and her partner assemble their exterior walls. While it does take some time and thought to assemble the houses just right, many students consider this phase of the project the most rewarding.
Chris, Nathan, and company are focused on getting their houses precisely built. We decided to use masking tape because hot glue guns would have been a lot less forgiving with mistakes.
Left: Here is an example of Partnership #66's Google Draw. Students had to transfer the dimensions of their walls from their floor plans to Google Draw. They had to label their walls. They also had to precisely place doors and windows on their walls using an x and y coordinate system.
Above: With their floor plans as a reference, a partnership shares a Google Draw document and carefully draws their walls. A mistake at this stage can make assembling their house difficult because the laser cutter prints exactly what is on their Google Draw.
LMEC students presented their project at The 2023 CCTE Showcase. Dr. Lamont Jackson and Mr. Steve Elizondo even came by our booth to learn about our project. LMEC 6th graders did an awesome job explaining the project to them as well as all of the other visitors who stopped by!
On average, each house has 15 walls. There are roughly 95 houses in our community, so that makes for a total of approximately 1,425 walls!
Houses are starting to be constructed!
For most, this is the first time they put their house on their property. This photo was taken on the eve of their first of two Presentations of Learning.
Armando and Ricardo do an awesome job presenting their house to younger students at LMEC.
Students from 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades visit five different 6th grade classrooms for our "June 6th Presentation of Learning."
Haziel, Angel, and Cesar present their house and make two new friends.
Adaia and Rebecca were the first two 6th graders at almost every milestone during the inspection process.
The turnout for our "June 8th Presentation of Learning" was huge! Thank you to all who came out!
