The Future Classroom Lab (FCL)
FCL is a laboratory for testing out new ideas for teaching and learning at Samfundets secondary school. The main goal is to engage the students in exploring technology and learning 21st Century skills.
The project started in 2019 with 240 m2 available for one class at the lower secondary level. In 2023, it was expanded to include classrooms for both the middle school and lower secondary levels.
Our FCL is divided into several different learning areas. We primarily work in the presentation zone, conversation zone, group work zone, and the individual zone. We focus on how we can organize the classroom to achieve better learning and learning environment.
VISION FOR THE PROJECT
Samfundet's school shall be a pioneer in testing modern and future-oriented pedagogy, so that students achieve the academic and social competence they need in the 21st century (cf. the Ludvigsen Committee and the Curriculum). We want to be part of creating the school of the future. In this project, we will:
Develop 21st century learning spaces in primary and secondary education
Test modern school furniture and equipment that can provide better health and well-being for students
Develop future pedagogy and subject didactics linked to extensive use of modern equipment in all subjects
Test how various technological aids can give students both greater technological competence and prepare them for the future
Create enhanced learning related to social and academic goals compared to traditional teaching in traditional classrooms
Experiment and innovate around the student role, teacher role and learning styles
Reassess and potentially change teachers' pedagogical practices
Design classroom areas divided into different learning zones and examine how this can affect student engagement and classroom interaction
Protect and retain the best values from yesterday's school that should be continued and emphasized in a time of great and rapid changes
Develop visions for the school of the future
