Wellbeing

St Augustine's College is committed to supporting wellbeing for learning

Positive wellbeing is essential to support improved student outcomes. Our wellbeing framework promotes a whole school approach to wellbeing, a positive behaviour support framework (SOLE), a positive school climate and family and community partnerships. Student wellbeing is primarily supported by the Teacher Advisor program. This teacher is the first point of contact between the college and families. If there are concerns for a child's wellbeing, parents can contact their child's TA teacher. If the TA and parent feel that further assistance is required to support the child's wellbeing, a referral can be made to a college wellbeing officer. A wellbeing officer can assess the wellbeing needs and provide support or referrals for students. Our college wellbeing officers are Jacob (Jake) Kelly and Sandy Carver. The wellbeing officers provide a short term one to one support service with the option to link to external referral services should there be a need to do so. The wellbeing officers also conduct small group sessions to support relationship building, grief support and social skill support. The wellbeing officers work alongside TAs, the Community wellbeing leaders (Penny Jenner F-4, Anthony Poppa 5-8 and Michelle Downie 9-12) and the Deputy Principal Wellbeing to support student wellbeing. The wellbeing team also encourages participation in wellbeing support programs such as mentoring, park rangers and other external opportunities as they present.

Positive mental health is taught through The Resilience Project, which is taught at all year levels across the college.

Community Wellbeing leaders are supported by the Wellbeing officers in developing safety plans, regulation plans and behaviour support plans for students who require additional support in the classroom. These plans are developed in conjunction with parents.
