A Night To Remember, in loving memory of Domenico Schiano di Cola ‘13, was hosted at Hillcrest Country Club on Monday, March 10, 2025.
In August of 2024, Domenico, brother of senior Luca Schiano di Cola, passed away from sudden cardiac arrest during a family trip to Italy.
The sold-out event consisted of both silent and live auctions, games and activities, and dinner and dessert. The proceeds from this beautiful celebration of life will help establish a memorial garden, and a scholarship fund in memory of Domenico.
With 290 tickets sold, the attendance really exceeded the family’s expectations.
Schiano di Cola ‘25 said, “I was very surprised with the attendance. Selling out the venue was not an easy thing to do, and we are blessed for that.”
Our own student body generously supported the family. During the dinner, Luca was surrounded by classmates, and members of the men's basketball team filled another table.
Mother of Domenico, Debora Malvone ‘90 said, “I am so grateful to everyone that donated and participated in this event.”
Friends and family came together to honor Domenico, and remember his kindness, humor, and endless optimism.
Classmate of Domenico, Joey Marchi ‘13 said, “In life, it can be hard to make friends, but everyone had a friend in Domenico.”
To keep Domenico’s memory alive, a scholarship fund will be established at Saint Joe’s, for students who exemplify similar characteristics, and a positive outlook on life, just as he did.
Malvone ‘90 said, “The candidate should be kind-hearted, honest, and optimistic in the best and worst times.”
This scholarship will reflect Domenico’s love and charisma. As he brightened the days of all who interacted with him, the scholarship will award students who do the same.
Schiano di Cola ‘25 said, “I hope the scholarship will reflect my brother's kindness and overall personality.”
Domenico’s legacy will never fade in this community, and the Schiano di Cola family will never forget the amount of support they received. In the future, the family may have different fundraisers and events to continue the scholarship for years to come.
Malvone ‘90 said, “I will never forget the immense gratitude and love that I felt when everybody came together in remembrance and celebration of Domenico.”

Prom night is the most anticipated event for upperclassmen throughout their high school career. This year for prom, many different dress styles are being worn.
Long and flowy styles are the most popular choice this year, while being modest yet classy.
"Ball Gowns" are a wonderful choice, if you are wanting to feel like royalty for the night. A voluminous skirt is ideal for that dramatic entrance that almost every girl craves.
Another popular choice is the "Mermaid" style. This style tends to have a fitted top that hugs the body, and flares out around the knee. This is a simple choice to show a sense of elegance and class for the girls who like to show off their silhouette.
"Off-the-shoulder" dresses are another bold choice, highlighting the neck line and shoulders in a classy way. This is well paired with a gorgeous "Mermaid" or "Ball Gown" style dress.
So many options, yet so little time, as prom is quickly approaching.

On any type of team, teamwork is a key component to success. Teammates need to work together for the good of the team, a great example being our women's volleyball team.
According to Yale University, “camaraderie and a sense of friendship among team members are associated with the highest levels of morale and job satisfaction.”
“I would like to see teammates who bring each other up, not down,” said SJHS girl’s volleyball coach Ann McCarthy.
A positive environment leads to more enjoyable practices and competitions, because no one stresses about internal drama. This friendship must also be shared between players and coaches.
“It is important to me that athletes let their coaches coach, and they work hard on the court to support their teammates,” McCarthy said.
Cheering on teammates is also very important for the team’s morale. The support motivates players and increases team spirit.
“Ava Roxberry is the GOAT of supporting her teammates,” McCarthy said.
Working on a team leads to learning one’s strengths and weaknesses. In the case of a sports team, this is very important when it comes to improvements. Coaches can identify where the team is struggling the most, and focus their time on that area.
When asked about the volleyball team, McCarthy said, “This team is clearly motivated to work hard for each other. There is a sense of mutual respect and love which makes coaching this team so enjoyable.”
