Staff Bios

Hi, I am Jesse Bernot and I am a senior. Some of my hobbies outside of school are bowling and video games. I took journalism because I wanted to try something new. I am undecided on what I will pursue as a career in life, so I am keeping an open mind to the possibilities. 

Hi, my name is Sophia Doyle and I am a sophomore. My hobbies outside of school include hanging out with friends, shopping, and playing golf. I chose journalism as my elective because I want to branch out my interest, and I would also like to see if a job in journalism would be a good fit for me.  

Hi, my name is Taylor Hunkele and I am a senior. My hobbies are softball, cheering and hanging out with my friends. My hope for the school newspaper is to improve communication with our students. 

Hi! My name is Brody Lilly, and I am a senior. I took journalism because I wanted to expand my horizons and explore something new. My hobbies include video games. I plan to attend Slippery Rock University to major in Criminology.

Hi, my name is Kni'je Middlebrook and I am a sophomore. Outside of school I write poems and read books.  When it rains, I like to sit on my porch and enjoy the smell and all the different sounds. This year I decided to try out journalism because I love writing and I will take any chance to write about things I’m passionate about. In the future I want to become an author and a business owner who gives back to my community.

Hello! My name is Brad Roxberry and I am a senior. I love to write and share my opinion and information with others. I hope to accomplish this while I write for The Sword and Shield. I love journalism because I believe everyone should be informed as quickly and easily as possible. I hope to improve my writing through this experience.

Hello! My name is Nicholas Sarno-Brown and I am a junior. My favorite hobbies outside of school are singing in my church choir, volunteering in my community, and bowling. The main reason I took journalism is to give me a head start for later in life when I become a tv news anchor/reporter. My hope for the newspaper is that we will become experienced journalists and continue this student-led legacy at SJHS.

Hi! My name is Justine Spinelli and I am a senior. I am taking journalism because I want to explore it as a potential career path. I have high hopes for this school newspaper and I hope to provide accurate and insightful information to the SJHS community. In the future, I will be attending Ohio University to major in Communications.

 Hi, I’m Katie White. I am a senior. Outside of school, I enjoy reading and watching tv. I took journalism because I am interested in pursuing a career in writing. 

Hi, my name is Julie Wilson and I am a senior. I am interested in social justice, feminism, and making the world a better place. I took journalism as a way to enhance my writing skills and understand the media better. My hope for the newspaper is to have fun and write something really interesting and exciting. My future plans are to become a teacher and involve myself in community outreach, such as counseling or volunteering. 

Hi! My name is Bezzie Yitnalem, and I'm a senior. I volunteer at Allegheny Valley Hospital, and I enjoy watching television shows. I took journalism to explore different things and study what journalists do for a living. I hope for the newspaper to provide helpful information and to entertain the readers. In the future, I hope to be a physician assistant and work in pediatrics.
