The new Apple iPhone 14 is catching people’s attention
By Nicholas Sarno-Brown ‘24
iPhone users say the top reason they upgrade is because of the camera quality
This fall, during Apple's “Far Out” event at their headquarters in Cupertino, California, Apple unveiled new iPhones, watches, and AirPods.
The iPhone models offer a new camera, their best battery life yet, and new features of crash detection such as not answering the phone and automatically sending emergency personnel to your location. These are just some of the best features in the newest iPhones. This year, they come in 5 colors: Red, Midnight, Starlight, Purple, and Blue. The price ranges from $799 to $1099.
Teachers and students upgraded to the new iPhone 14 for one main reason: the new iPhone camera quality.
The advanced camera compelled teacher Anne Schratz to upgrade her phone. Schratz admitted that her carrier offered her some perks when upgrading the iPhone.
“Verizon offered cash back. If I were not a Verizon customer, I would not have paid out of pocket,” said Schratz.
The new iPhone 5g is useful, " Schratz concluded.
Junior, Donovan Polito, had a different take. He upgraded with a trade in because his iPhone was outdated.
"My phone was starting to slow down,” admitted Polito. “I had pretty big expectations since it is a 3 generation jump, and they were met.”

“Wonder” by R.J. Polacio
By Katie White ‘23
August Pullman was born with a severe facial deformity that has prevented him from going to a public school. When he starts fifth grade at a regular school, Auggie wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid. However, his new classmates treat him differently based on his appearance.
"Wonder" begins from Auggie's point of view, but soon switches to include the perspectives of people around him. These voices add an element that portrays a community as it struggles with those who are different. This book challenges readers to think about the true nature of empathy, compassion, acceptance, friendship, and most importantly, kindness.
I truly enjoyed this book and can easily say that it is one of my favorite books. "Wonder" is a book that anyone can read at any age and see from a different perspective at each stage of life. This book is written in a format where most characters have a voice and it really helps you understand their side of the story and their reasonings for their actions. What surprised me most about this story was seeing what people truly think about those who are viewed as “different”. "Wonder" shares a powerful lesson that everyone should know and understand. It teaches readers that it's okay to be different, and being different is what makes you special.
JUSTINE & JULIE: THIS OR THAT??
Justine Spinelli and Julie Wilson give their take on what is trending.
FASHION EDITION
Curly or Straight Hair
Justine: Straight Hair
I like the look of sleek, straight hair and it is simpler for me to do on my hair.
Julie: Curly Hair
Personally, I think curly hair is easier to do and I can never get my hair to look fully straight. Curly hair can also be a versatile style.
Crop Tops or Oversized Shirts
Justine: Crop Tops
To me, the style of them is much cuter and I like the look of them, especially with jeans.
Julie: Oversized Shirts
Oversized shirts are so much more comfortable and can be styled with a lot of different things.
Mom Jeans or Skinny Jeans
Justine: Mom Jeans
I like the style of mom jeans better, especially with the other clothes I wear.
Julie: Mom Jeans
I find them more matchable and I think they look better on me.
Necklaces or Bracelets
Justine: Necklaces
I like necklaces because I think they can be a statement piece, and I don't notice I'm wearing it.
Julie: Bracelets
This was a hard choice, but bracelets are something I wear everyday and they add a good touch to my outfits.
Food and fun after school on Fridays
By Brody Lilly '23
Half-day Fridays give students the perfect opportunity to do things with friends after school. Some students however, are not able to drive and are restricted to things within walking distance.
When considering what to do, going out to eat is a good option, since many restaurants to go to are nearby.
Once the final bell rings, places like Eat 'n Park and Dairy Queen are good choices as they are both within a minute's walking distance. Although a little further, Arby's and Wendy's in the Heights Plaza are also good options to get food quickly.
Not much further than Wendy’s is J&S Pizza, which is a very popular choice. Owned by the family of a Saint Joseph student, students are always treated nicely at J&S.
All of these close options give students many choices. Whether it’s fast food or sit down, pizza or burgers there is something for everyone.
It is all within a few minute walk, and restaurants give students a safe place to go after school while waiting for an after school activity or simply hanging out with friends.
