Students enjoy a lavish end-of-year celebration at the SJ prom
By Nick Sarno-Brown, '24
A night that high school students will never forget: prom. On May 19, prom was held at Hillcrest Country Club in Lower Burrell. Although there was rain in the forecast, the weather turned out to be delightful, and the promenade was held outdoors.
From the venue, to the menu, and onto the dance floor, the students had a blast. A group of juniors came together to make up the prom committee. The committee picked the menu, the favor, and also met with the decorator to plan for the "Enchanted Forest" theme.
The all you can eat buffet consisted of parmesan and herb crusted chicken, slow roasted beef, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans almondine, and mushroom risotto.
At the end of the night, no major incidents had occurred according to the teachers chaperoning the event.

Looking back before they move on: seniors enjoy their last retreat together
By Taylor Hunkele, '23
The senior retreat took place on May 23 and 24 as the Class of 2023 traveled to Christ Our Shepherd Center in Greensburg, PA.
During the retreat students reflected on their time at St. Joseph High School and the many lessons they learned in 4 years.
Senior Eva Bajko said, "I had a really good time. I wish our retreat was longer."
During the retreat seniors got to open their letters that they wrote to themselves during past years. Sealed until now, many were surprised at what their former selves were thinking about and experiencing in previous years.
Senior Lauren VanFossen spoke about reading their letters.
"It was interesting to read what we wrote to ourselves and to see how much we changed over the years," VanFossen admitted.
Over all the retreat was seen as a success and a time to appreciate all the opportunities this class has been given.
"It helps you realize that time is short, so any problems you have with each other you should put aside. Because before you know it high school is over," admitted Savanah Ord.

Underclassmen celebrate the senior class through F&S and S&S Days
By Sophia Doyle, '25
The underclassmen each spend a day celebrating the seniors and wishing them luck on their future endeavors. Student council officers took on the roles of planning the event for their respective classes. The officers sought peer-input when selecting the activities for the event.
F&S day took place on Monday, May 22 and the freshmen and seniors began their day by enjoying breakfast and chatting. After a prayer service in the gym, the freshmen hosted activities such as 'Name that Tune', musical chairs, and volleyball.
After lunch, the two classes had fun playing board games, esports, and a tutorial from a cartoonist.
Towards the end of the day, they were treated to root beer floats and participated in a water balloon toss.
"My favorite part of F&S Day was getting to play 'Name that Tune' and playing volleyball," said freshman Elena Penrod.
F&S Day not only allows students to step away from academics for a day, but it also allows them to connect with the senior class and enjoy a day with their seniors.
"I think there should be more events before the seniors leave because it helps you become closer with the upperclassmen," explained Morgan Kachur '26.
Sophomore & senior day took place on Thursday, May 25, and it began with enjoying donuts while getting to chat amongst friends.
The sophomores arranged the day for lawn games, making slime, playing board games, and participating in a scavenger hunt before lunch.
After, the classes participated in minute-to-win-it races in the gym, and were surprised with ice cream at the very end of the day.
"My favorite part was hanging out with friends, playing lawn games, and eating ice cream!" said Emma Blackburn, a sophomore.
Both classes created ideas for fun ways to spend time with seniors on campus. These ideas allowed the classes to connect before the seniors graduate.
The junior class created their final memories with the senior class at the Junior-Senior Prom.
