Ferrari S.P.A is a Italian sports car . Found by Enzo Ferrari in 1929 . The company sponsored manufactured race cars before moving into production of legal vehicles as Ferrari in 1947 . Ferrari road cars are generally seen as a symbol of speed , luxury and wealth . In 1963, Ferrari employed approximately 450 people and made 598 cars. The American of the Ford Company employed 175,000 and made 2.1 million cars.Yet, the model that Ford wanted more than anything else that fateful year was one with a Ferrari name on it. Indeed, a Ford buyout of Ferrari came very close to happening ! The Ferrari 458 Italia continues to go from strength to strength and has garnered over 30 international awards in its short career. Yesterday, it added two further plaudits to that collection at the International Engine of the Year Awards when its V8 was voted “Best Performance Engine” and “Best engine above 4 liters.

1. Enzo Ferrari was born on February 18, 1898, outside Modena. His grandpa was a food wholesaler, his dad Alfredo a metal in the local railway workshops.

2. Enzo saw his first race at age 10, and could drive at 13. He was invalided out of the army during World War II; neither his father nor brother survived it.

3. In 2006, Ferrari sold 5671 cars – 635 of them in the UK.
