Mainah Sculpture

For this project the assignment was to create a "Mainah" sculpture incorporating things that we associated with our home state. My first instinct was use the buoys that we had around the classroom because almost nothing says Maine to me like fishing and the ocean, then I began to paint it. At first I planned to paint a scene including someone fishing fish that I created out of sculpey, but as time went on I decided instead to leave the buoy painted with the sea green, and blue colors that I had painted it and make more of a sign representing Maine instead of the original image I had planned. So, I collected sticks from outside and glued them to the buoy to spell out "Maine", then I cut up pieces of a net and glued that to the buoy as well to continue with the ocean/fishing theme. This project meant quite a lot to me because personally I love my state! For me Maine represents my childhood, my family, and my home... I have never dreamt of leaving as I know many others do, and I have never wished to spend my childhood in a different place. Although I do not believe that I did Maine justice through my artwork, it is very obviously rushed and there are many places where a little bit more detail or time spent could have made a huge difference in my finished product.
