In class we were all asked to write down a noun, any noun, and put it in a hat, the hat was then passed around and we all pulled out someone else's noun. I picked out the word zebra. Stripes came to my mind immediately, so I decided to use black and white stripes to create the word. The only materials I used on this piece were sharpies and I relied heavily on line, space, and balance. I liked the idea of really using and highlighting the contrast between the black and white and having that be where the word itself will pop out, I also didn't really want it to be 100% clear at first, to have it be one of those things that becomes clearer the more you look at it, I had a pretty clear idea of this right from the beginning but as I went I played around with and figured out how to put the word in a way that I wanted, but once I figured it out there really wasn't much fiddling left to do. I feel like my art could be stronger if i had evened out the lines so they all ended at the same point, I think right now that makes it look a little unfinished.
