Wire Sculpture

The subject of my artwork was supposed to be a paintbrush, then I gave up and tried to make a sphere, then I gave up again and made a basket. My lack of wire sculpting skills had me constantly change my plans as I went through the project. To create this work I used the hook and loop method, and a lot of trial and error. I chose to make the basket in the end because I had half a sphere and didn't feel like making the other half. The elements and principles of design that I used were shape, texture, and space.

I like the way that my basket turned out, but if I started it as a basket and not a sphere, I wouldn't have made the bottom rounded. If I created another work like this I would have chosen a more squared-off object with no rounded corners, so that I could bend the wire more easily and efficiently.
