The subject of my artwork is the silhouette of a cat, spray-painted onto the grip-tape of an old skateboard deck. To create this work I drew an abstract cat on a piece of thick drawing paper. I chose this because the artist that inspired this project, Henri Matisse, drew cats and goldfish in abstract ways. The elements of design I used in this project were color, shape, contrast, texture, and space.
My project didn't turn out the way I expected it to because I intended the silhouette to have a clean contrast, but I forgot that skateboards have a concave surface, and some of the paint ended up running under the paper I sprayed on top of. If I created another work like this I would not apply as much paint to the artwork as I did, so that it wouldn't run and ruin the whole thing.
