Macro Leaf

The subject of this creation is a leaf I chose of the ground during class. It was hard to come up with a setting because I drew the leaf pretty big, so I couldn't really draw anything happening in the back. I decided to draw a blue and white crecker board in the back representing a table cloth the leaf is lying on. I think that was a good idea, and it turned out well. The leaf was first sketched with pencil and then colored in with colored pencil. It was a very hard process trying to match the leafs exact colors. For the table cloth a sketched it in pencil, and then went back over it in color pencil. This assignment was pretty specific so I tried to find a leaf that had a good variety of colors, and a good transitioning point of colors in the leaf. This leaf is good because it gave points where the leaf had a solid color, and then other times where shading was needed.

One main technique I used throughout this drawing was contrast. I really worked hard on shading to match the real leaf as much as possible. Also blending the colors from green to red on took a lot of time too. I didn't just want to make an abrupt change in color, so I spent extra time on blending the colors. This projected evolved because when I originally thought I was done I didn't have a background, and the veins or the leaf weren't standing out as much. So I revised, and changed that.
