Hands

The subject of this creation is two hands holding a sting of lights across a Christmas tree. So this setting will be taking place during Christmas, specifically decorating the tree. To fill in the background I did colored circles. I liked how that turned out because it willed up a good amount of the white space, and the rage of colors is really good. This was made by first sketching everything out in a 4H pencil. My sketches are always kind of rough lines, so since this drawing had to have smooth lines I had to change it a lot after the sketch. After the sketch was complete I went back over the hands making the closest figure the darkest, and then made it get lighter the farther away each finger was. I think that turned out well, and gave the hand some depth. Once the hands were made I sketch circles, and then traced over everything in a variety of colored pencils.

I chose to do this drawing because the holidays are coming up, and one of the biggest holidays is Christmas. I knew I wanted to do something with Christmas, but I didn't know how I could incorporate hands into the drawing. While I was doing the thumb nail sketch, after a while of thinking, this idea popped into my head. I really liked it and decided to follow through with it.

Composition is shown is this drawing by the choice of color, and where it is. I wanted the circles to subtly go from light to dark, from the top of bottom. I slowly worked my way down from warm colors, to cool colors. I a blue of purple circle up top, and a red or yellow circle on the bottom, to make it more of a subtly change. I like how I also made the big circle in the top left, blue and red, I think it was a good choice. This project evolved from first sketching out my drawing, the trancing it over with color, and adding a range of value to the hands. I then chose to fill in the background with a range of colored circles.
