The Visual Arts offers the students the ability to complete a full course including any of the following, Visual Communication, Art Practice and Media. The students may also select their own subjects to best suit their chosen career path.
The Performing Arts may be studied in conjunction with other arts subjects or independently. Subjects to consider are Dance, Drama, Music Performance and Theatre Studies.
All areas of the Arts offer both career and tertiary study opportunities.
This study will develop students’ skills in interpreting, discussing and evaluating artworks through the focus of meanings and messages.
Students will also be encouraged to explore ideas and develop a range of skills through investigations and experimentation of a range of techniques and materials such as clay, paint and graphite. They will develop the skills to produce finished artworks and document their journey in a visual diary.
Drama A is suitable for students who enjoy creating, performing and working backstage. Students learn about different theatre styles, elements of theatre composition and production roles to create an ensemble performance. Students research stagecraft (acting, costume, set, props) and become responsible for one stagecraft area throughout the production process. Students will also be required to self-assess their work and keep a drama diary. The subject aims to develop practical skills in theatre making, preparing students for VCE Theatre Studies.
Students will study the technique and performance of a range of dance styles. They will work on improving their technique, choreography, and performance skills. They will learn group dance routines and perform these for assessment. In theory class students will analyse a range of dance works and be introduced to basic anatomy and how the body moves.
These units are designed as an essential preparation for VCE Music Units 1 and 2. In these units students work to develop and refine their practical performing skills in small groups and as soloists. They explore and analyse the elements of a wide variety of styles. They develop and define their aural comprehension skills and the use of appropriate musical technology. They also explore practical applications of music theory to create improvisations and effective arrangements for their performances.
Throughout this unit students explore a number of media forms and texts. They learn foundational skills in digital photography, documentary film making and Adobe Photoshop editing. Students also unpack and analyse a Narrative film, and answering questions. Students create their own short films while learning the basic elements of film production.
This unit following the new Vic 2.0 curriculum, helps students to find out the many areas of study included in Media and prepares them well to go on to study Media at VCE.
In this unit students will develop an understanding of the production and interpretation of a range of visual communications and drawing systems. It involves a study and application of freehand drawing, instrumental drawing and rendering. It also provides an opportunity to develop skills in the design process whilst investigating a variety of techniques and mediums.
