VET allows students to include vocational studies within their senior secondary certificate. Students undertake nationally recognised training from either accredited state curriculum or national training packages. These VET programs may be undertaken in a variety of settings and offer students the opportunity to undertake Structured Workplace Learning (SWL), combining classroom learning with hands-on training and practical industry experience.

Things to consider when choosing a VET program:

Some VET programs are delivered at various offsite locations.

Some VETs will incur additional fees.

- eg VET Beauty kit ($300 - $900 depending on provider)

VET programs can run from Monday to Friday. This will highly likely affect your timetable.

VET programs can run outside of school hours.

What credit will I receive towards my VCE?

VET programs contribute to both VCE certificates. Some VET courses are scored and contribute towards a students ATAR. Selected VCE VET programs offer scored assessments for Units 3 & 4 in the same way any other VCE subject does. (EG Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation).

VET programs contribute to the VCE in one of the following ways:

Credit towards the VCE at Unit 1-2 level and a Unit 3-4 sequence. Where a study score is available it can contribute directly to your ATAR. These studies are: Business, Dance, Engineering, Health Services, Hospitality Music Industry and Sport and Recreation.
Credit towards the VCE: units at Unit 1- 2 level and 3-4 sequence. Through block credit a contribution of 10% increment towards the ATAR or as a fifth or sixth subject.
Credit towards the VCE Vocational Major: VET units contribute toward the industry specific skills strand at all VCE VM levels.

Certificate II Agriculture (AHC20122)

Certificate II in Agriculture: provides an entry level occupational outcome in agriculture. The qualification enables individuals to select a livestock production or cropping context as a job focus or, in the case of mixed farming enterprises, both. Job roles vary across different industry sectors and may include: assistant animal attendant or stockperson, assistant farm or station hand, assistant farm or station worker.

Certificate II Horticulture (AHC20416)

Certificate II in Horticulture: underpins a range of work functions and job roles that can lead to a horticultural trade qualification. provides the opportunity to gain a wide range of horticulture skills. Students learn plant care, soil management, and landscape design, equipping them with practical experience and knowledge for careers in the horticulture industry. Employment opportunities may include nursery worker, assistant landscaper, assistant parks or gardens worker.

Certificate II Conservation & Ecosystem Management (AHC21020)

Certificate II in Conservation and Ecosystem Management: provides the skills and knowledge required for work in a defined context and/or for further study in conservation and ecosystem management. The qualification enables individuals to select and develop basic factual, technical and procedural knowledge in conservation and ecosystem management for Indigenous land management, lands, parks and wildlife services and the restoration and rehabilitation of ecosystems. Employment opportunities may include assistant land management officer, assistant conservation worker, assistant parks and wildlife officer.

Certificate II in Animal Care: provides students with the skills and knowledge to enter the animal care and management industry. Certificate II in Apparel, Fashion and Textiles (MST20722 )

Certificate II in Apparel, Fashion and Textiles:provides an introductory overview of the entry-level workers in the textile, clothing and footwear industry who perform basic and defined work tasks involving known routines and procedures under supervision. This qualification is typically used to develop basic employment related skills and knowledge including preparatory access and participation skills and/or specific workplace skills that relate to an individual sector. Specialisations and/or elective selections allow for the tailoring of this qualification to achieve basic skill outcomes in different areas of apparel, fashion and textile work.

The range of technical skills and knowledge is limited. This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a limited range of tasks relating to identifying and inspecting mechanical and electrical components and systems of light vehicles, heavy vehicles, outdoor power equipment, bicycles, marine craft and motorcycles.

Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre-apprenticeship (22338VIC )

Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre-apprenticeship aims to provide learners with basic industry specific skills and knowledge to enable transition into an apprenticeship within the building and construction industries at the Certificate III level. This pre-apprenticeship course consists of a core of common cross sector units of competency that provide skills and knowledge in applying basic levelling procedures, carrying out basic measurements and calculations, communicating in the workplace, erecting and safely using working platforms, interpreting basic plans and drawings, preparing and applying for work in the construction industry, working effectively and sustainably in the construction industry and workplace safety practices onsite. The Certificate II in Community Services provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to engage in job roles within a range of community organisations in the service industry. Students learn to work with people of diverse backgrounds, engage safely in their role and provide support. Certificate II in Creative Industries: provides students with a pathway to a variety of creative industries. Core units of competency include developing and applying creative arts industry knowledge, working with others and work health and safety practices. To complete the certificate, a broad range of electives are available in broadcasting, lighting, animation and digital effects, web design, basic vision and sound editing, props and set construction.

Certificate II in Dance: is a preparatory qualification that allows learners to develop basic technical skills and knowledge to prepare for working in the live performance industry. The job roles that relate to this qualification may include trainee Indigenous dancer, trainee contemporary dancer or trainee musical theatre dancer.

Certificate III in Dance: this qualification reflects the role of those working as entry level dancers in the live performance industry. Learners are expected to demonstrate the application of foundational skills and knowledge for routine activities expected for dance and live performance contexts. Note: Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for VCE VET Equine Studies must undertake scored assessment. This consists of three coursework tasks, worth 66% of the overall study score, and an end-of-year examination which is worth 34% of the overall study score.

Certificate III in Beauty Services incorporating Certificate II Retail Cosmetics and Certificate III in Make-Up: provides skills and knowledge to undertake roles such as make-up artists designing and applying make-up across the beauty, fashion, media and entertainment industries. Skills are developed for work in make-up studios, retail cosmetic counters, fashion and media sets, and photography studios. Provides skills and knowledge to work as a beautician, providing a range of beauty services including nail, lash and brow, and basic make-up services. Develop a range of technical and customer service skills where discretion and judgement is required, including client consultation on beauty products and services. Provides a pathway to work as a retail sales consultant in beauty or cosmetic products and services, including beauty and hairdressing salons, retail outlets and department stores.

Certificate III in Health Services reflects the role of a variety of workers who use a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge to provide assistance to health professional staff for the care of clients. The program includes a nationally recognised First Aid certificate and covers key employability skills that are transferable to any industry, including: Communication, Teamwork, Customer service, Work Health and Safety, Organising work activities and Infection control.

Certificate III in Information Technology (ICT30120)

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a wide range of general information and communications technology (ICT) technical functions and to achieve a degree of self-sufficiency as an advanced ICT user. This course can be structured to be delivered over 2 years where the student will receive a Certificate III in Information Technology. If this course is not completed over both years the student will receive a partial completion of Certificate III in Information Technology.
