1) Paint your canvas black (easiest way is to put some directly on the canvas and paint it around. Don't forget the edges)

2) Dry it with a hair dryer

3) Make sure it's completely dry and then add masking tape. You can do any pattern you'd like, just be sure it goes over the edges or lines up. You don't want weird edges.

4) Paint over your shapes. You can do whatever color scheme you'd like. Just be mindful as you get out paint that you're not wasting it. It might take a few coats if it's light to cover the black. Paint/dry/paint, don't try to put a gallon of paint on at once

5) Pull the tape

6) Add patterns to your shapes using fine and ultra fine tip sharpies

***Acrylic paint will ruin clothes and brushes. Wear an apron, if you wish. Be sure to wash out brushes completely within 5 minutes or less of using them.

***If you are not done with a color, store it with a damp paper towel and in a ziplock baggie
