This course is designed to explore a wide range of art experiences. The major emphasis of this studio course is the development of basic drawing and sculpting skills along with the study of art history and art appreciation. It is our intention to provide the student with a background in the language of art. Artwork will be required to be completed in- and out-of-the classroom.

This is the second-year art level comprising four semester courses which may be elected in any sequence.
AR211 CERAMICS 1 (Grades 10-12)

This is a studio course designed to explore foundational Ceramic hand-building skills, in a variety of styles and themes. Areas of concentration will be in multiple hand-building pottery techniques, including coiling, slab building, pinch-pot, and mold making. All projects serve a functional and decorative purpose. The course will also include an in-depth study of glazing and firing processes. Art will be required to be completed in- and out-of-the classroom.
AR221 SCULPTURE 1 (Grades 10-12)

This is a studio course designed to explore foundational Sculpture techniques, including additive and subtractive sculpture, ranging in a variety of styles and themes. Students will work with a variety of materials, including wire, foam, clay, plaster, recycled materials, and more. Artwork will be required to be completed in- and out-of-the classroom.
AR230 DRAWING (Grades 10-12)
Weight 1.0 Credit 0.5/semester (see prerequisite for Art 2)
This is a studio course designed to further develop the student’s ability to draw. Emphasis is placed on developing a deeper knowledge of the language of Art. Anatomy,
portraiture, landscape and still life drawing are some of the subjects explored. The media to be employed will consist of Prisma Colored Pencils, pen and ink, graphite, pastels, charcoal, and other materials. Required artwork will need to be completed both in- and out-of-the classroom.
AR240 PAINTING (Grades 10-12)
Weight 1.0 Credit 0.5/semester (see prerequisite for Art 2)
This is a studio course which will stress the development of personal painting technique and styles. The subject matter will be both traditional and abstract. Emphasis is placed
on developing a deeper knowledge of the language of art. The media consists of ink, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and possibly oils. Required artwork will need to be completed both in-and out-of-the classroom.
AR230 DIGITAL DRAWING & PAINTING (Grades 10-12)
Weight 1.0 Credit 0.5/semester (see prerequisite for Art 2)
This course utilizes i-Pad’s and explores the ProCreate application for digital drawings, paintings, illustrations, and animations. Students will develop digital images that
showcase perceptual skills, conceptual strategies, production methods and narrative compositions. Students will operate their stylus pen like a brush or pencil to execute their work within ProCreate. Students will learn about different types of paper and how to print their work as well.
LEVEL 3
(Grades 11-12)
Prerequisite recommendation: The student must have completed Drawing and/or Painting and/or Digital Drawing & Painting.
AR310 ADVANCED DRAWING AND PAINTING (Grades 11-12)

Prerequisite recommendation: The student must have completed Drawing and/or Painting.
This is a course intended to reinforce basic skills and stress advance development in personal techniques. Experimentation with new concepts and media is encouraged. A
strong importance is placed on personal and professional growth. Some materials being used are alcohol based markers, watercolor pencils, printmaking, and Micron Pen.
Required artwork will need to be completed both in- and out-of-the classroom.
AR212 CERAMICS 2 (Grades 11-12)

Prerequisite recommendation: Students must complete Ceramics 1.
This is a studio course designed to explore advanced Ceramic hand-building and wheel throwing techniques, in a variety of styles and themes. Students will also explore advanced glazing techniques, art history topics, aesthetics, and art criticism. Skills and knowledge gained in Ceramics 1 will help drive students to personalize and develop their ceramic building, glazing, and firing techniques in Ceramics 2. Art will be required to be completed in- and out-of-the classroom. Students document their process and progress through various sketchbook assignments.
AR222 SCULPTURE 2 (Grades 11-12)

Prerequisite recommendation: Students must have completed Sculpture 1.
This studio course is designed to explore advanced forms of sculpture, in a variety of styles and themes. Materials explored in the course include clay, wood, metal, stone, and found objects. Students will also explore advanced project development, art history, aesthetics, and art criticism. Skills and knowledge gained in Sculpture 1 will help drive students to personalize and develop their sculptural building and creation process in Sculpture 2. Artwork will be required to be completed in- and out-of-the classroom. Students document their process and progress through various sketchbook assignments.
LEVEL 4
(GRADES 11-12)
Prerequisite recommendation: These are fourth year art level courses. A student must have completed a combination of Art Level 2 and Level 3 courses. An interview with either the 2-D or 3-D instructor, prior to enrolling in either course, is strongly encouraged.
AR400 AP 2D ART & DESIGN
(Grades 11-12)
Weight 1.2 Credit 1/year
Students create a portfolio of work to demonstrate inquiry through art and design and development of materials, processes, and ideas over the course of a year. Portfolios include works of art and design, process documentation, and written information about the work presented. In May, students submit portfolios for evaluation based on specific criteria, which include skillful synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas and sustained investigation through practice, experimentation, and revision.
AR320 COLLEGE PREP INDEPENDENT STUDY 2-D
(Grades 11-12)
Weight 1.2 Credit 0.5/semester
Prerequisite recommendation: The student must have completed either a combination of Art Level 2 Drawing,
Digital Drawing & Painting or Painting and Art Level 3 Advanced Drawing and Painting and teacher recommendation.
This course is designed to prepare art students to develop strategies to further their education in the field of Art and to continue creating works after taking level 2 and level 3 art classes. Attention is placed upon advance development in personal techniques and personal growth. Experimentation with new concepts and media is encouraged. Students will create works of art based on their own choice of mediums, styles and size. Required artwork will need to be completed both in- and out-of-the classroom.
AR330 INDEPENDENT STUDY 3-D (Grades 11-12)

Prerequisite recommendation: A student must complete either combination of Sculpture 1 & 2 or Ceramics 1 & 2.
This is a studio course designed to prepare serious art students to further their skills and understanding of 3D art components, materials, and artists. This course provides strategies for the students to study 3D production at the college level. Students will create works of art based on their own choice of mediums, styles and size. Artwork will be required of students in- and out-of-the classroom. Students document their process and progress through various sketchbook assignments.
