Death Of The Concrete League
Recently, the soccer Concrete Recess League that was played during recess has stopped playing games and no tournament is scheduled for the future. Instead, players have shifted towards a new kickball league and pickup recess games due to them feeling the CRL became boring and repetitive.
Beau Wiatrak, a 7th grader who used to play for the CRL until switching to the kickball league states, “I think the league failed because the Grass league players join our league and made it hard to play games.”
He goes on to say that this difficulty to play games with more players coming from the competing league caused players to become bored with the bigger gap between games, leading to them quitting.
Owen Clifford, A Monroe 7th grader who played for the league as well as being the most recent commissioner of the league says, “[The CRL] just got kinda boring because of the repetitiveness of the game.” He went on to say that it was just time to end the league, and it was a good run, being very fun.
Derin Sezgin, a Monroe 7th grader plays for the soccer Grass League. Players of both the CRL and Grass League considered themselves rivals of each other.
Derin states, “[The CRL] didn’t really fail, but I think their season just ended. I also think the kickball league impacts recess because some brilliant people thought of a new and creative league for students to give accessibility to.” Derin also shared that he thought it was smart to think of the league as it gained the attention of the CRL and the Grass league players.
Former players of the CRL continue to miss the league but they continue to play other games at recess.
