No Tech Day
George Washington Middle School has implemented a “No Tech Day” that is coming up soon. No Tech Day is a day where all GW students and staff will not be allowed to use their chromebooks or other technology. This day will affect students and teachers alike.
Dr. Kashmanian is the principal at GW and is the one who came up with the idea. She thinks it is a great idea and feels strongly about the fact that technology is not good for you. She thinks it will be a good idea to make No Tech Day a regular event.
Although Dr. Kashmanian thinks it won’t make much of an impact for one day, she hopes it will in the following years. Dr. Kashmanian thinks for the next year, a few days a week will be No Tech Days. She says that it is best for students to be off the technology, and it is supported by a lot of research.
Mrs. Gianetti is the Monroe House 7th grade Science teacher. She says, “I think that students get burned out being on their chromebooks hour after hour. Any time we can take a break and do something without technology, I think is a good thing.”
Mrs. Gianetti thinks that No Tech Day is a good idea for a good cause, but it will affect her lesson plans for the day. During school, Ms. Gianetti and other teachers plan to hand out a packet of paper for students to work from instead of the usual Google Classroom assignments.
Annie Clarke is a 7th grade Godwin House student. She says, “I think that there is no point to No Tech Day since it is only for one day. It doesn’t really help me.”
However, some students do not care about No Tech Day.
Sara El Nabli is a 7th grade Monroe House student. She says, “I don’t think it will have much of an impact on me because next week we’re going to go back to normal and using our computers and screens again.”
George Washington Middle School’s first No Tech Day will take place this Friday, June 9th. It looks like more No Tech Days are in GW’s future for years to come.
