To begin your certification journey, you will need to take and pass the TExES content test administered by Pearson.
All certification-seeking candidates are required to pass:
A TExES Content Test that matches your certification and placement area. Many of you took this test before entering the program as the TExES Pre-Admissions Content Test (PACT).
The Pedagogy and Professional Responsibility (PPR) exam
The Science of Teaching Reading Test (required for Core Subjects EC-6, Core Subjects 4-8, and ELAR 4-8 categories only).
Certification-seeking candidates also have the option to prepare for and take the ESL Supplemental exam. While this exam is optional for gaining certification through Relay GSE, some employers require it. Please check with your employer if you are unsure whether you need to prepare for and take the ESL Supplemental Exam.
The order for test preparation is TExES content test, ESL Supplemental (if required), and PPR.
We recommend studying at least 3 hours per week in preparation for your test.
