The ESL Supplemental Exam is not a requirement for Texas certification. However, many school districts do require it. Texas schools serve numerous English Language Learners, so we recommend this exam for any candidates who have passed their content test. If you are interested in obtaining this endorsement on your certificate, read on!
Step 1: Review the study materials. Begin by reading the exam framework, the competencies, and the descriptive statements. Make note of any unfamiliar terms in the descriptive statements. Take a diagnostic test to determine if further study is needed. If so, make a study plan, and stick with it!
Step 2: Take and pass an approved practice test. For more information on practice tests and passing scores, read the Relay Texas Guide to Testing Permission.
Step 3: Submit passing practice score report to My Checklist & receive official testing permissions.
Step 4: Register for official ESL Supplemental exam.
Step 5: Take & pass official ESL Supplemental. Refer to your certification handbook for the deadline to pass the ESL Supplemental. To obtain this endorsement through Relay GSE ACP, you must pass the ESL Supplemental before earning a probationary or intern certificate.
