The My AmeriCorps portal is how you access your personal AmeriCorps account. This is where you complete enrollment and exit forms, apply for loan forbearance and interest accrual payments, view and release your Education Awards, and more!
Please call the AmeriCorps Hotline if you have issues logging in to your account, have a question about your award, or receive an error message in My AmeriCorps.
You can also submit an inquiry via webform or live chat with a representative here.
Upon completion of your service year with Relay, you may be eligible to receive a Segal Education Award. Click the buttons below to learn more about the award and other relevant information related to loans, taxes, and using your award.
Tax Information: The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has determined that payments from the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award and accrued interest payments made on behalf of a member are considered taxable income. Click here and scroll to the bottom to read more.
AmeriCorps does not withhold taxes from Education Award payments, which means you will have to pay taxes on any payments as income when you file your return. If you released payments that totaled at least $600 in the year, the National Service Trust will notify the IRS that payments have been made and you will receive a Form1099 for that tax year. If the Form1099 is applicable, you can print out a copy from the system by going to the "My Tax Forms" section of the website and clicking on the available 1099 form. Remember that taxes are due only in the year in which the payment is made, not the year the award is earned.
Having trouble entering your 1099 while doing taxes? Check out these articles: Article 1 Article 2
Individuals who serve in an approved AmeriCorps position may be eligible to have the repayment of their qualified student loans temporarily postponed while they are serving by requesting forbearance. While an individual's loan is in forbearance, the member is not required to make payments. Interest may continue to accrue but if the member successfully completes the term of service and the loan is a qualified student loan, the National Service Trust will pay all or a portion of the interest that accrued during the service period.
You can complete both of these requests in your My AmeriCorps portal.

If you exit Relay prior to the end of the school year, you will automatically be withdrawn from the AmeriCorps program. If you are in this situation or are thinking about it, continue reading to learn how an early exit can impact your financial standing with Relay.
AmeriCorps categorizes two types of exits:
Exit for Cause: a member decides to leave, finds a new job, leaves for dissatisfaction, is dismissed, etc. A member exited for cause receives no portion of their Segal Education Award.
Exit for Personal Compelling Circumstances: a member exits due to circumstances outside of their control (e.g., spouse in military, medical reasons, mental health, program is shut down, etc.). A member exited for personal compelling circumstances is eligible to receive a partial Segal Education Award. The amount of the award is based on how many hours the member has served at time of exit.
Please read this flow chart to walk through each type of exit and what it means for you.
*In order for the AmeriCorps Team to exit a person for compelling personal circumstances, we must have documentation on file. This is typically a doctor's note or memo from professional detailing the circumstances that supports the decision to not continue on in your position.
*Please reach out to the AmeriCorps team at support@relay.edu if you have questions or are thinking about exiting early.
