AmeriCorps is a civil society program supported by the US federal government, foundations, corporations, and other donors.
Programs are administered by AmeriCorps, a federal agency.
AmeriCorps provides grants to address critical community needs in education, economic opportunity, public safety, health, veterans and military families, and more.
Founded in 1994. 2024 marks the 30th anniversary!
AmeriCorps’ mission is to serve communities in need. Relay’s mission directly aligns to this, as we are serving communities across the country and addressing critical needs in education.
Relay members are connected to service opportunities in their communities to foster collaboration between programs, build relationships, and inspire a spirit of service now and for life.
AmeriCorps grants help to fund our program and Relay’s AmeriCorps members can earn the Segal Education Award to offset out-of-pocket Relay tuition expenses if they so choose.
Other Benefits Available to Members
Federal student loan forbearance
National Service Trust will pay student loan interest accrued during service after successful completion of term
Free background checks

Service Hours
A full-time AmeriCorps service term is 1700hrs
Relay’s AmeriCorps members perform AmeriCorps service when serving students in schools, attending Relay classes, and participating in service events.
Relay teachers should easily serve the minimum requirement through their daily responsibilities and any required service events.
The Relay AmeriCorps team tracks hours internally using an Alternative Timekeeping System. Members do not have to fill out timesheets.
Service Requirements
You are required to post AmeriCorps Serves Here and Prohibited Activities printable signs in your classroom. Only print the state sign for which you are currently teaching. Click here to download signs.
You will receive and sign two AmeriCorps evaluations (Mid-year and End-of-term) through DocuSign during your service term.
AmeriCorps grant officers, commission board members, and elected officials like to visit AmeriCorps programs and members. You may be asked to be observed in the classroom or while attending a Relay class session. You may also be interviewed by a grant officer about your AmeriCorps experience.
All AmeriCorps members are encouraged to participate in AmeriCorps special events during the year. These events are an opportunity to engage in your community and serve alongside fellow AmeriCorps members. The AmeriCorps Team will especially highlight opportunities for Veterans Day, MLK Day and AmeriCorps Week.
SWAG
As a member, you will receive swag to wear daily while serving in your classroom. You should each receive AmeriCorps branded items shipped to your home address. Please wear at least one AmeriCorps swag item daily to promote brand awareness.
We are proud of our Relay AmeriCorps members and want your schools and students to know you are part of the program!
