AmeriCorps Closeout: The 2023-24 service year is nearing the end! All Relay AmeriCorps members are required to complete closeout steps by Friday, May 24 to successfully exit from the Relay AmeriCorps program and earn any eligible Segal Education Award. Please reference the email you received on Wednesday, May 1 for more information about all closeout steps (click here for overview). AmeriCorps Impact on Education at SXSW EDU: AmeriCorps CEO Michael D. Smith and leaders from Communities In Schools, Teach for America, and City Year took the stage at SXSW EDU to discuss AmeriCorps’ impact on education. Get to Know Another AmeriCorps Program, Generation Teach: AmeriCorps members serving as teaching fellows with Generation Teach engage elementary and middle-school students in summer experiences that center history, stories, and strength of people of color and provide all participants with windows and mirrors of their own lived experiences. During their seven-week fellowship, AmeriCorps teaching fellows receive robust professional development and teach for 24 days at a STEAM Academy. Since 2014, Generation Teach has co-created loving communities where more than 7,900 third to eighth grade students, 1,730 undergraduate and high-school students, and more than 300 professional educators have learned, grown, and developed
Official Exit Confirmation: Once you complete all closeout steps (deadline Friday, May 24) and your school has signed the AmeriCorps hours verification form, Relay AmeriCorps can officially exit you from the 2023-24 service term. Think of this as your AmeriCorps graduation! Stay tuned in June- early July for an official exit email from Relay AmeriCorps with important Segal AmeriCorps Education Award information if eligible.
Using Your Education Award: If you were eligible to earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, it will be available in your My AmeriCorps Portal in 1-3 business days after the “AmeriCorps Exit Date” column in the closeout tracker — an award will not yet be available to you if no date is listed. Follow the steps in this Support Center article if you wish to release your award to Relay and/or submit a refund waiver agreement to be considered for a refund/reimbursement of your educational expenses covered. .
Note for Program Completers: If you wish to use your Education Award to resolve unpaid tuition balances, you must follow the steps above to release your award no later than July 3, 2024. Payment after this date will delay access to proof of program completion (e.g., diploma).

AmeriCorps 2024-25 Enrollment Preview: Current AmeriCorps members planning to return to Relay for the 2024-25 school year will be required to complete a new AmeriCorps application for a second year of service. However, you will not have to complete new background checks since we can use the Truescreen and Fieldprint checks you completed this year. Have a wonderful summer and stay tuned for enrollment communications in June!
