Part 1: How to Connect Your Device
Step 3: Turn on the laser cutter.
Note: you will find this on the back of the laser cutter on the right-hand-side.
Step 4: Plug the USB C cable into your computer.
Note: you will find this on the left-hand-side of your MacBook.
Step 5: Connect the X Tool software to your MacBook.
Once you plug in the USB C cable you may be asked to allow the accessory to connect - select "Allow".
Whilst inside the X Tool software, on the top-right of the screen, you will see a 'connect your device' icon - Select this.
From the devices list, select "xTool S1"
Part 2: Operating the Laser Cutter
Step 1: Toolbar basics:
While using the X Tool software, hovering over a tool will let you know what it does.
Create text, choose from a variety of shapes, or create an original drawing.
Step 2: Text tool:
While using the X Tool software:
Select the text tool
Place the cursor on the canvas and left-click to place the text.
Click below the text box to remove the boundary box and reveal the text.
Note: the default text is 'hello' - you are free to change this.
Step 3: Selecting material:
While using the X Tool software:
Select the 'User-defined material' button, located at the top right corner

While using the X Tool software:
From the new selection window, select the material you wish to use.
Select '3mm Pine Plywood' for this exercise.
Step 4: With the laser cutter:
Place material on the honeycomb machine bed.
Use the magnetic clips to secure the workpiece.
Step 5: With the laser cutter, set the laser cutter height:
Manually move the laser cutter head unit to the centre of the material.
Select the auto-measure icon.
Step 6: With the laser cutter, set the start position:
Manually move the laser cutter head unit to where you would like to cut.
Note: The crosshair indicates the exact start point.
Step 7: Within the X Tool software, align the file:
With the X Tool software open, manually move the laser cutter head unit to your file.
Alternatively, move your file to the crosshair position.
Step 8: Within the X Tool software, with the text selected, you can choose to score, engrave, or cut.
Score: only the outline is engraved
Engrave: The closed area will be engraved.
Cut: The outline will be cut.
Note: The settings are automatically adjusted for each operation.
Step 9: Within the X Tool software:
Select the 'Go to process' button located in the bottom-right of the screen.
Select the 'Got it' button to move past the trajectory simulation.
Step 10: Within the X Tool software, start the job:
Select the 'Start' button located in the top-right of the screen.
Important: Turn on the LEV system before using the laser cutter.
Note: The Local Exhaust Ventilation system removes fumes.
Step 11: With the laser cutter, start the job:
Press the button on the front of the laser cutter to start the job.
