Dear Families,
Thank you again to all of our parents for getting us across the finish line to our $30,000 fundraising goal. This money enables PTC to supply busing for our field trips and guest speakers, stipends to our teachers for classroom supplies, allowances to our room parents for classroom parties and events, seed money for Santa Shop and VIP Day, lunches for teachers on inservice days, etc.
This money also allows PTC to meet varied requests from teachers for classroom equipment and other assorted items that keep us nicely outfitted for our educational purposes. A recent example is the PTC-funded purchase of new chromebook carts for several classrooms. When PTC cuts checks for these kinds of purchases, it eases the burden on the school budget, which is now bearing costs for certain school supplies (textbooks, digital subscriptions, etc.) that were once borne by the state of Ohio. Money from the state is still there, but we are forced to allocate it differently due to our personnel needs.

The 8th grade class set a new record by raising over $1,700 dollars on the pumpkin raffle. Our three highest historical revenue totals have all come from the last three years. I attribute this phenomenon at least partly to the ever-more-skilled pumpkin artistry of our students. This money will go towards the cost of their Washington, D.C., trip in March.

During conferences, I was talking with a parent who has noticed that I am no longer sending out OptionC messages during the school day. This new practice is the result of a suggestion from an another parent. The idea is to make the school day an OptionC-free zone so that if a message DOES drop between 7:45 and 2:40, you know it's urgent and needs to be read as soon as possible. Great thinking!
On a related note, I will share the results of the school safety and security survey before Thanksgiving.

I have written before about the conscious way we talk to our students about Catholic identity. We tell them that being Catholic is not something you do more or less of by way of situation or circumstance. It is not a garment that you put on or take off as the weather of the world dictates. It is dissolved into you, tattooed on your heart, carved into your soul like a law into stone.
The natural consequence of this reality is that your ultimate path in life will simply be your bespoke way of channeling grace, mercy, virtue, love, truth, goodness, and beauty into the world.
In other words, if you end up selling insurance for a living, you will be a Catholic seller of insurance, not a seller of insurance who also happens to be Catholic.
Being vocational in one's career is something that rarely occurs by accident. A person finds this path by way of deliberate decisions. Or, ends up on a path and then figures out a Catholic way to walk it. This brings me to two questions:
1) How is it that you live the Gospel through your work?
2) Are you willing to share your story with Queen of Peace students?
For the record, I would be just as eager to hear from any of our non-Catholic families whose Christian faith heavily informs what you do in your work lives!
Christ in Self. Christ in Other.
Sincerely,
Josh
