Thank you to PTC, and Amber Walter in particular, for helping make QP Night at New London a reality! From all the reports, a good time was had by all. We extend special thanks and appreciation to the folks at New London Hills for hosting us. We hope to make this a tradition!
Dear Families,
Every year around this time, we nominate a staff member to be the Queen of Peace recipient of the Harry T. Wilks Educator of Excellence Award. This award is presented at a special October banquet that recognizes Hamilton educators for the work they do.
Our 2025 recipient will be Mr. Kevin Hoffman, Technology and Media Specialist. Here is our essay submission for Mr. Hoffman:
There are certain kinds of uncommon people who manage to do it all without making any fuss or fanfare about the universally recognized fact that they, well, do it all.
The magical source of energy that powers their productivity is neither shared nor understood by those mere mortals who get faint around 1:00 p.m. and need a cold compress and a warm pat on the back to get through the day.
One such uncommon man among our ranks at Queen of Peace is Kevin James Hoffman. Mr. Hoffman’s official job title is Technology and Media Specialist. Quite a dignified title, we think. But also one that is wholly inadequate to the broad and varied range of things that he does for our school and church. It's like calling a cell phone a "phone." Kind of insulting when you think about it.
Mr. Hoffman’s unofficial title is "Doer of all those things that someone, at one time, described by saying, 'maybe Kevin can do that.'" The only reason he doesn't cook and serve lunch is because he gives piano lessons to students during that time. And don't worry. Mr. Hoffman doesn't need to eat. He is a man with his priorities in order. He is the Kevinator, equal parts man and machine, moving through the world at the same steady and untroubled speed, recharging himself with the energy created by his own relentless forward motion.
As the universe perpetually expands, so does the scope of Mr. Hoffman’s work duties. It is the iron law of Mr. Hoffman that nothing can be removed from his workload. Only added.
This workload consists of the following things....
Managing all school and parish technology. All of it. From sound to video to devices to just about anything that plugs in. If it has a cord, it belongs to Mr. Hoffman.
Serving as the head school librarian.
Teaching 9 STEM classes per week.
Serving as webmaster for school and church.
Playing the piano for all school Masses, all funerals, and all weekend parish Masses.
Directing the adult and children's choirs.
Formatting and providing content for school and church communications.
Serving as the staff coordinator for Chess Club, Yearbook Club, Tech Club, and Robotics Club.
It could be argued that this level of responsibility is inhumane. However, rest assured that no Kevin Hoffmans were harmed in the making of this list. The beautiful truth is that Mr. Hoffman is a happy, humble, and willing doer of all these things. He is the epitome of a man driven entirely by the cause, and by an exceptionally high standard for serving this cause well.
Mr. Hoffman will work early. He will work late. He will work often. Yet far from being a workaholic with questionable work-life balance, Mr. Hoffman is simply a man whose approach to work is to immerse himself in it as a life calling.
You could also be forgiven for thinking that Mr. Hoffman’s work quality must suffer from the sheer volume of his responsibilities. What a silly, silly thought. And how is it possible, you ask, that quality does not buckle under the weight of quantity? Nobody knows. Nobody…..knows.
The living legend of the Kevinator only grows with time. We hereby beseech God to allow Kevin James Hoffman to live an immortal existence at Queen of Peace. Amen.
Mr. Hoffman....Thank you for your devotion to Queen of Peace! It is unquestionable a better place because of you!
Sincerely,
Josh
Our children's choir is in need of additional members!
Students in grade 3 are now invited to join us. Please register below if your child is interested.
Grades 3 - 8
The Children's Choir leads the student body as music ministers during all school Masses. There may be one or two extra events that the students can participate in throughout the year. Students will gain valuable experience learning choir concepts through group and solo singing. They will also gain exposure to many different types of liturgical music.
This group is directed by Mr. Hoffman and Mrs. Roell. Students practice once a week after school, every Wednesday from 3:00 to 4:00pm in church or the school's music room. The group is open to all children of Queen of Peace Parish entering grades 3 through 8. Can't make Wednesday practice? Don't let that discourage your child from joining! We still welcome students to join us when and if they can, and to sing with the choir on Fridays. Music selection links can be sent for listening/practice at home, and we generally run through all the music before Mass between 7:40 - 8 am.
Grades 3 - 8
Crochet club is held from 3PM - 4PM on the first and third Tuesday of the month. Students are to be picked up right at 4PM from the cafeteria. Crochet club will be run by Ms. Jungkunz. Materials are not required but students are more than welcome to bring their own.
Grades 3 - 8
This year we will continue the after-school service club for students in grades 3-8. The club will meet on the 2nd and 4th THURSDAY of each month in the Missionary Discipleship Room (Mrs. Roell's Room) from 2:45-4:00 pm. The goal of this club is to promote prayer, community and service in order to become better Missionary Disciples. Please send a donation of toiletry items (shampoo, toothpaste, soap, etc) each week that your student participates. Items will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul.
