Mrs. Cook is free at last from her Gorilla Tape prison.
Thanks for our new popcorn maker, PTC!
Mr. Hoffman was recognized as a Wilks Educator of Excellence at the Hamilton Community Foundation banquet last week. The Kevinator reigns.
Dear Families,
We have come upon at the threshold of Monster Mash, Halloween parties, and parent-teacher conferences!
I was talking with Mrs. Roell last week about the stealthy way in which school events appear on the horizon and then arrive, meteor-like, a moment later. Here we are, Monster Mashing already when it seems like we were talking out the details just moments ago in a PTC meeting.
I know this is a trite observation to make. Just another way of saying "time flies." But the fact that humanity keeps coming up with new ways to marvel at an old phenomenon seems to suggest that the swift passage of time is a thing worth marveling at. I am reminded of a lesson that Mrs. Roberto was teaching her science students several weeks ago. If the history of the earth were a 24-hour period, human beings emerge only in the final two seconds. Maybe this means time is a slow-moving train instead of a fast-moving wind, and that the analogy doesn't hold up. Either way, it's something about time that makes me say, "Whoa."
Coincidentally, it was in the final seconds of the 6th grade Junior Rams football game on Saturday that they sealed the win with a Josh Yordy interception, warding off what would have been a game-winning touchdown by the opponents. They advance to the championship game next weekend, along with their Junior Ram counterparts in 5th, 7th, and 8th grade. When all these boys become men and their own kids are on the field, their memories of their own childhood exploits will collapse time and appear through the looking glass "like it was just yesterday."
We already communicated this message, but for the sake of thoroughness, please know that all parents are invited to the Monnnnnnnnnnster Mash on Tuesday! We'll get events underway around 12:45. Students will return to their classrooms before dismissal. If you will be in attendance and plan to take your student bus rider home with you, please note two things:
Contact Mrs. Estridge before 1:00 on Tuesday to let her know that you are changing transportation plans. If your student is normally a car rider, you do not need to do this.
Parents will need to wait outside during dismissal. There is always a lot going on at the end of the school day (especially this one!), and it definitely helps to have everyone outside while we get the students organized, announcements made, prayers said, etc.
One final thing. During liturgy practice last week, we challenged students to think about what it means to say, "Unless a grain of wheat shall fall upon the ground and die, it remains but a single grain with no life." This piece of scriptural wisdom has the feel of a riddle. Yet, like so much of Jesus' teachings, it is dense with clear meaning about how we should live our lives. I'll provide an update on the different answers students give to the grand question of what exactly these words mean.
Christ in Self. Christ in Other.
Sincerely,
Josh
