Dear Families,
Queen of Peace School could not function as it does without robust volunteer support from our school parents. I noted in a recent memo how parent volunteers are the workhorses of BINGO. This program makes vital financial contributions to the school on top of being a community event that brings life to campus, carries forward Catholic tradition, and offers a real-world space for the kind of authentic social life that is threatened by the seductive glow of "digital spaces."
If BINGO doesn't scratch your volunteer itch, then you may be curious about other opportunities to become a steward of the parish or school. Here is a list of groups or activities to consider:
1) St. Vincent de Paul. A group that is the hands and feet of Christ to the poor. Next meeting is 9/9 at 6:30 in the parish office. Contact Ron Bulach if interested. Email: ronbulach@hotmail.com.
2) Parent Teacher Committee (PTC). A group that organizes fundraisers and events to benefit the students and teachers. Next meeting is 9/10 at 6:00 in the art room. Contact Theresa Davis if interested. Email: ptc@qphamilton.org.
3) Queen of Peace Athletic Committee (QPAC). A group that organizes fundraisers and events to help fund QP athletics. Next meeting is 9/8 at 7:00 at Happy Hour House. Contact Rick Graf if interested. Email: grafra0612@gmail.com.
4) Family Promise. A group that helps run Dot's House at St. Julie Church a few times a year. The organization helps families with kids find stable housing and employment. Contact Rosemary Gebhart if interested. Email: gebhart_r@hotmail.com.
5) School-Based Volunteering. Hot lunch worker. Pizza lunch worker. Concession stand worker. Monster Mash, Spirit Olympic, Drawdown, Field Day worker. Athletic coach. Substitute teacher (not technically volunteering since it's paid work, but still a major help, so I'm counting it!), guest presenter, mystery reader, etc. Contact Josh Mears if interested. Email: jmears@qphamilton.org.
6) Lector or Eucharistic Minister at Mass. Participating in a church ministry is a unique way to participate in the life and mission of the church and school. Contact Alison Helton if interested. Email: parishoffice@qphamilton.org.
7) Adult Choir. Contact Kevin Hoffman. Email: khoffman@qphamilton.org.
8) Building and Grounds. There is a real need for some folks to take the reigns from long-time volunteers who do all the watering, beautification, and other things around campus that help keep our place looking good. Contact Chad Riegert if interested. Email: criegert@qphamilton.org.
9) Queen of Peace Festival. Our festival is one of the first of the summer in the Greater Cincinnati area and helps kick off festival season. I know of one or two booth captains who have been doing the job for generations and are looking for new blood! If you are interested in helping out in any way with the QP festival, contact Ken O'Connor. Email: oconnokm@yahoo.com.
10) Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. There are a number of homebound parishioners who are not able to receive the Eucharist unless someone brings this gift to them in their homes. If you are interested in this ministry, contact Alison Helton in the parish office. Email: parishoffice@qphamilton.org.
In all that we do, we ask God for the clarity of mind and singularity of purpose to think of our sacred mission: to see Christ in ourselves and Christ in others.
Sincerely,
Josh
Our children's choir is in need of additional members!
Students in grade 3 are now invited to join us. Please register below if your child is interested.
Grades 3 - 8
The Children's Choir leads the student body as music ministers during all school Masses. There may be one or two extra events that the students can participate in throughout the year. Students will gain valuable experience learning choir concepts through group and solo singing. They will also gain exposure to many different types of liturgical music.
This group is directed by Mr. Hoffman and Mrs. Roell. Students practice once a week after school, every Wednesday from 3:00 to 4:00pm in church or the school's music room. The group is open to all children of Queen of Peace Parish entering grades 3 through 8. Can't make Wednesday practice? Don't let that discourage your child from joining! We still welcome students to join us when and if they can, and to sing with the choir on Fridays. Music selection links can be sent for listening/practice at home, and we generally run through all the music before Mass between 7:40 - 8 am.
Grades 3 - 8
Crochet club is held from 3PM - 4PM on the first and third Tuesday of the month. Students are to be picked up right at 4PM from the cafeteria. Crochet club will be run by Ms. Jungkunz. Materials are not required but students are more than welcome to bring their own.
Grades 3 - 8
This year we will continue the after-school service club for students in grades 3-8. The club will meet on the 2nd and 4th THURSDAY of each month in the Missionary Discipleship Room (Mrs. Roell's Room) from 2:45-4:00 pm. The goal of this club is to promote prayer, community and service in order to become better Missionary Disciples. Please send a donation of toiletry items (shampoo, toothpaste, soap, etc) each week that your student participates. Items will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul.
