Dear Families,
I think our first few days of school were very smooth and peaceful. The students fell right back into their familiar routines and showed impressive recall of the expectations for conduct at morning gathering, in the classrooms, in the hallways, in church, and at lunch and recess. This is credit to our teachers, parents, and students. It is a sign of well-established norms that have become an instinctive part of school life.

For those who are wondering, the outside steps on the south side of the church will remain out of commission until a handrail can be built. This is not a major issue since we have alternate routes back and forth. For anyone asking themselves why we did not do this earlier in the summer, it came down to contractor availability. This timing also afforded Mr. Kerby the efficiency of doing both the patio (which he donated) and church step projects in sequence.

On Tuesday, 9/2, we welcome the entire kindergarten roster for their first day as a full class. We also welcome the preschool students for their first day down in preschool village. Tuesday also marks the beginning of hot lunch service, milk service, and Aftercare service.

Our next school security update will come as soon as we have a definitive plan in place for the sheriff patrols. We had a productive discussion with the deputies on Friday. They are going to be a major resource for us.
On this note, you may find the info at the following link to be helpful in talking to your kids about school violence:

Answering kids' questions is not always easy. It is a dance choreographed around many factors: student age, tone and word choice options, your own intuitive sense of what your child needs to hear, and the raw difficult truths of the matter at hand.

At our first Mass on Friday, Father Vu talked about the devoted discipleship of St. John the Baptist. He reminded us of the universal call to live the holy life. We are faced with myriad choices every day. Many of them might not seem to have moral implications:
Turkey or ham?
Part to the left, right, or down the middle?
Pen or pencil?
But others definitely do, often without our realizing it.
Pick up that piece litter..... or not?
Make that unseen person feel valued.....or not?
Say thanks.....or not?
It was the perfect way to punctuate our school mission to see Christ in ourselves and others.
To a holy year ahead!
Sincerely,
Josh
Thank you to QP parent Zack Kerby for his skilled work on our new patio located on the east end of the school building. Mr. Kerby worked for days on this project. He laid the concrete, sculpted it, carved in the design, and used special techniques to impart the earthy color. What a work of art!
Grades 4 - 8
The Children's Choir leads the student body as music ministers during all school Masses. There may be one or two extra events that the students can participate in throughout the year. Students will gain valuable experience learning choir concepts through group and solo singing. They will also gain exposure to many different types of liturgical music.
This group is directed by Mr. Hoffman and Mrs. Roell. Students practice once a week after school, every Wednesday from 3:00 to 4:00pm in church or the school's music room. The group is open to all children of Queen of Peace Parish entering grades 4 through 8. Can't make Wednesday practice? Don't let that discourage your child from joining! We still welcome students to join us when and if they can, and to sing with the choir on Fridays. Music selection links can be sent for listening/practice at home, and we generally run through all the music before Mass between 7:40 - 8 am.
Grades 3 - 8
This year we will continue the after-school service club for students in grades 3-8. The club will meet on the 2nd and 4th THURSDAY of each month in the Missionary Discipleship Room (Mrs. Roell's Room) from 2:45-4:00 pm. The goal of this club is to promote prayer, community and service in order to become better Missionary Disciples. Please send a donation of toiletry items (shampoo, toothpaste, soap, etc) each week that your student participates. Items will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul.
Grades 3 - 8
Mr. Hoffman is once again accepting piano students for the 25/26 school year. Priority will be given to returning students and new students will be accepted oldest to youngest if there are more students interested than Mr. Hoffman can accommodate.
Student Lessons are held once a week during lunch/recess or after school with Mr. Hoffman in the music room 1:1 or 1:2 depending on time, availability, and musical aptitude.
