Congratulations to our 4th grade class for winning the Greenest Class competition on Badin's Give Green Day. Mrs. Schlabach's 4th graders were declared the winners among all the participating grade schools. Later in the spring, the 4th graders will be treated to a Recess Takeover, which will involve ice cream or popsicles, dance party, and a special visit from the Ram mascot.
Thank you to all who donated! We raised just over $500 for Badin with our out-of-uniform fundraiser.
Dear Families,
1) I am pushing back the share date for our safety and security action steps. My goal was to have everything ready today, but I underachieved. So, the new share date is Sunday, February 22nd.
2) Later this evening, you will receive an OptionC email confirming the 2026-2027 roster spot for your re-enrolled students. Please note that if you submitted an actual application for a Preschool, Kindergarten, or Grades 1-8 roster spot, the confirmation date for roster spot status is Friday, February 27th.
3) Earlier this week, our students participated in Adoration. This is something our students have done before, but never in such a unique way.
If you attended a Catholic grade school or Catholic high school, it is very likely that you never experienced Adoration in an educational setting. Catechesis looked and sounded a bit different back in the '80s and '90s.
"Catechesis" derives from Greek and means "to resound or to echo." In a Catholic context, when we catechize our students we are relaying into their hearts and minds the teachings of the Church as handed down from the apostles. When done well, these teachings reverberate. They set the key in which a person sings their song to the wider world.
Every teacher and coach in a Catholic school or program is a catechist. Every catechist participates in the formation of a young person's heart and mind.
So....why Adoration as an instrument of catechesis?
Because it simultaneously brings us down to the proper level of our humanity and raises up to proper height the "source and summit" of our Christian life--the Eucharist.
We will soon begin saying a new morning prayer: the Act of Love. This prayer declares that we "love God above all things." Yet in modern life, we often make choices that place other priorities higher than God. Adoration corrects this error--one that happens whenever we let life wash over us without much thought as to what important things the wave might be washing away.
Adoration itself involves giving love and honor to the Blessed Sacrament, which sits on the altar in a special vessel called a monstrance. There is no wrong way to do it as long as love and honor are the messages being sent by the adorer. Some read. Some pray. Some kneel. Some sit. Some create art. Some write. Some sit in silence.
We become better people when we remind ourselves in this holy way of the God who made us with Love and for Love.
Special thanks to Mrs. Roell, Mrs. Seals, and Mrs. Grammel for putting so much time and thought into the design of our Adoration experience.
Christ in Self. Christ in Other.
Sincerely,
Josh
