Building Academy

Welcome to the Queen Charlotte College Building Academy (QCCBA)

About Us

The Queen Charlotte College Building Academy was established in 2024, following a period of foundation setting in 2023. Inspired by models seen around the country where industry and schools collaborate to offer engaging and useful courses for students, the Building Academy was created thanks to the vision of Chris Shaw.

In collaboration with Kāinga Ora, the Building Academy aims to provide students with hands-on learning opportunities in building houses. Kāinga Ora funds the houses built by students, which are then used to supply social housing, thus contributing to the community.

Courses Offered

Students at the Building Academy engage in practical learning experiences by building houses on-site. The structure for this hands-on learning environment was generously donated by Cuddons Engineering. Throughout the process, students not only develop building skills but also gain insight into project management as they oversee the construction projects.

Benefits for Students

Participants in the Building Academy gain valuable hands-on skills in construction and have the opportunity to learn from sub-trades involved in the building process. Through practical experience and exposure to various aspects of construction, students develop essential skills that prepare them for future careers in the industry.
